We loved the little colonial house with the swimming pool in the patio.
We will remember this experience forever!

“A special place”

My boyfriend and I got engaged at the Horned Dorset in May of this year. It was the rainy season in PR so the place was virtually empty -- we felt like we had the whole place to ourselves. Our bi-level room was beautifully decorated, the soaps were wonderful, the private plunge pool a slice of heaven.
Our visit to the Horned Dorset restaurant was quite different from other reviews -- we loved everything we ate. I actually ordered the same soup both nights because I loved it so much.
We can't wait to go back.

Room Tip: Prices are discounted in the rainy season -- and the resort is just as spectacular!

“Has certainly dropped a notch”

We have been to this hotel several times with our last visit being 5 years ago when we got engaged over dinner at Aarons. We just visited for our 5th anniversary and stayed 5 days.
There have been extensive renovations to the property with new entrance and "new" villas on the left hand side of the property. There are now 22 villas which are 2 floors with 2 baths and plunge pool. The new villas are very nice and we stayed in one of these units with an ocean view. They have tile/marble and are furnished with antiques.to

Another new development is the ongoing sale of the remaining 17 units-right hand side of property as the "Residences at Horned Dorset". Approximately one third of these have been sold with at least one resale on the market.

The level of service and attention to detail that we experienced previously is no longer present. It's a subtle change but definitely noticeable. There was an "owner" on site and it seemed most of the attention of the staff was directed at them. I guess that is to be expected if you purchase a unit there.

Our biggest disappointment was with Aarons the main restaurant.
On our prior visit we had some of the best meals of our lifetime in this restaurant and were very excited with our return. The food was mediocre at best. Undercooked without much taste we actually sent a dish back to the kitchen. After 2 nights with similar quality food we canceled our meal plan and ate out on the island. We subsequently found out from the staff the Chef Aaron has the left the property. He is now working on Martha's Vineyard. I am not sure this is public knowledge as the staff member seemed reluctant to answer when I asked about Chef Aaron.
Overall the Horned Dorset is a special place for us since we got engaged here. The hotel and surroundings are beautiful. Unfortunately the service has declined and it is unclear whether it's related to the development of the "residences". The restaurant was the biggest disappointment and it is unclear who is running the kitchen. Overall we give it 3 stars down from 5 on our prior stays

Thank you for sharing your experience of your recent visit and coparing it to your visit of 5 years ago, yes, there have been major remodeling and additions done over the last 5 years and today we have 22 Primavera villa suites and 17 Horned Dorset Residence suites, all duplex and each but one, with private plunge pool, we added a new gym, yoga pavilion and a new casusal restaurant , the "Blue Room" . I appreciate your positive comments on the property and accommodations.

Our Chef Aaron left last year before Christmas to explore new horizons and is still in constant contact with us as we still carry his name on our formal Restaurant "Aaron"..and is the son of one of the owners. Before his departure he hired the present execuive chef Jacob and put him in place. I am really sorry that you felt your dining experience was not the same as 5 years ago when you celebrated your engagement.

We would be very pleased to have you visit us again and please do not hesitate to contact me
to make any future stay more pleasant and show you that dispite the additions and upgrades on the property we still carry the" Horned Dorset Primavera " spirit.

“A little stuffy”

We only ate dinner here and the meal was quite expensive. The food was good, but I dont think that it justified the expense. I think you were basically paying for the ambiance and service. Probably wouldn't come back just for a meal. The grounds were beautiful though and if you can afford a room, I think it would be worth it for the whole experience.

Room Tip: Off the beaten path, windy roads - have to watch for other oncoming cars. Not a lot of parking for...

Thank you for takeing the time to share with us your dining experience at the Horned Dorset Primavera Hotel Restaurant as a visitor. ( You stated that you did not stay at the hotel but perhaps in the future.....)

Thank you for giving the good notes on the service and the property/grounds itself, but on value deducted some points. Our Restaurant prices reflect the price of the quality of raw fresh products we buy to prepare outstanding meals by highly qualified international staff to give our guests a special experience in our Restaurant and our aim is to offer private, discreet service to our customers.

We hope that we will have the oppurtunity welcoming you again and please keep in mind we also offer our less formal dining option on the ocean side, "The Blue Room" loved by many for its "Bistro" fare and local specialities.. Best regards.

“Luxury in a romantic, discreet, beautiful location”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 23 September 2011

Tucked by the beach in a corner of Rincon is this Relais and Chateaux group luxury hotel. It was quite a splurge (almost $ 700 for a night) but it was a special occasion and so we thought, why not, for once? It is a lovely property that provides discreet, luxurious service: you may feel that you are the only ones around on the property, yet the staff is always available and attentive when needed.

The room we had was amazing: it was on two levels, with a plunge pool of our own and beautiful views from the bedroom level. Children are not allowed, and the aim is to have a piece of your own paradise, quiet and secluded. There are no televisions either. There have a couple of beautiful pools, the property is lush green, and in the evenings you can enjoy spectacular sunsets. It is an extremely romantic setting and a perfect place for a special occasion with your significant other. You will go back completely rejuvenated.

They also have a great restaurant on site. The cocktails are great too. I would strongly recommend that you have your own car as this property is away form main Rincon. Rincon is a lovely town and there are also some lovely small towns and beaches nearby. You may want to get out once in a while for a short drive or change of scenery, but most of the time you will be quite happy here.
