This is a good example of how an even an experienced discerning traveller can get ‘tripped up’ by these web sites. On planning our holiday to Provence (an area which we did not previously know well) we took note of the various praises for this Hotel. We conjured in our minds a nice little secluded Inn, in a nice area. However, on our arrival we found that nothing could be further from the truth! Les Angles is a ‘down market’ area of Avignon. Rather like, Leyton as opposed to Richmond. Consequently, the Hotel Roques fits in rather well! It is a run down basic hotel with few amenities and very basic rooms. I would not give it even 1 star! Yes, there is a pool and there are gardens, but they are basic, small and ill kept. There are no restaurants for miles. Even though we had paid for four nights in advance, we checked out after 2 hours and found Le Prieure in Villeneuve Les Avignon. Now that’s what I call a hotel and a ‘nice’ village.
All the comments on these sites are subjective and if your previous experience of a good holiday was in Baghdad or Darfur, then I can understand you praising the Hotel Roque. But if you have slightly higher standards, then avoid it like the plague!
