Just returned from a week at Vuni after a long weekend in Istanbul.
Overall we had a lovely time in N Cyprus. But beware the Vuni is definatley not a 5* hotel and is in need of refresh. Arrived at hotel quite late and found the staff extreamly helpful and courteous, First impressions were good with a nice reception area and when arriving at our room it looked good, however on closer inspection the room was not particulary clean, the bed spread had a cigerette burn (although smoking was banned in the hotel some 2 years ealier) and the walls were very scuffed, the TV was very old with poor picture quality & would have taken at least two people to move it! However the room was large with two double beds and the view was wonderful taking in the pool area and sea/beach. We did view the port but it didnt detract.
The pool area was probably the best bit as it was spacious, clean & never crowded. I was dissapointed with breakfast as there was little choice, Only two choices of cereal (corn flakes or Chocopops!) plenty of cheese with all different toppings but little other choice. and eggs any way you want but again little other choice apart from Hallumi cheese! The pool/beach bar was nice but was dissapointed that beer was served in plastic glasses and coffee in paper cups (Oscars next door part of same Hotel group served glasses & proper cups and is 4*)
Finally the short cut to the harbour is at best 25 minutes away and not a particulary pleasant walk through a pretty run down area, even the courtesy train took nearly 10 minutes, so as we were on B&B we got a taxi every night (11Lira £4) had some great meals in Kyrenia at around £20 per head including wine, with great ambiance. Taxi back at about 11.00pm to find main bar was closed but drinks availible in lobby bar which was always empty, So had a few early nights!
Overall we had a good time in Kyrenia and I would probably stay at Vuni again but it could be so much better with a little thought & TLC
