We arrived by taxi from the airport which took approx 20 mins at a cost of 17 euros though on the way back it was only 14 euros. Booking into the 2 star hotel was no hassle and the room which smelt fusty along with stale smoke ( I wish hotels had a policy of no smoking in the bedrooms) was large but basic on the furniture. The tv had no remote but then there was no english speaking channels to watch. The bathroom was of good decor and size, the only bad thing was the towels, it is the first time I have ever had towels so rough that after showering and trying to dry myself I got a total body exffoliation. This was painful especialy after getting a little too much sun. The hotel bar caters for non residents as well and tappas and snacks can be ordered. There is an abundance of tvs of various sizes in the bar which most had sport ie football which was advertised outside on a chalkboard. We found the hotel to be quiteat night and didnt experience any bad noise from the traffic even though the hotel is situated on a busy, narrow road at traffic lights. Breakfast was from 8 to 10 and consisted of fruit juice, cerials, dried fruit, ham,salami. cheese,hard boiled, eggs, rolls and bread which you can toast to your own preference washed down with tea coffee or chocolate. The hotel in general was very clean and was being repainted while we were there. El Arenal is geared towards the German and Dutch tourist though we didnt find this to be a problem as all workers seem to be multi lingual. There are an abundance of restaurants and bars to cater for all tastes. The beach and promenade are just wonderful to walk along and call into one of the bars along your walk for a cool drink or a coffee. The promenade goes on for miles so take walking shoes if you plan to go the full distance. You will unfortunately be accosted buy street sellers every few yards trying to sell you watches, sun glasses or hats they dont cause you bother as they tend to go as soon as you refuse to buy but it is a pain. Along the promenade you can get a bus to Palma (num 15) for 1euro 10cent which will leave you just accross the road from Palma cathedral which is handy for getting the bus back, we were told the journey would only take 20 mins ours took 40. To sum up the resort is a bit run down though there are moves being made to spruce it up. The hotel is not the Hilton but is adequate for a short stay where you are just going to use it for sleeping, the beds are comfortable and clean but dont expect a view.
