“Warning This is the hotel from hell Spanish only welcomed here”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 13 January 2012

The most dreadfull Christmas holiday ever paid for 14 nights left after 5, Firstly let me say that we did not expect to spend our holiday in an old peoples home, We are booth pensioners and not ready for the knackers yard yet but here we were in a hotel that is misdecribed with no entertainment other than playing dominos or cards, Not once did we hear any music or see any of the spanish Inmates smile or laugh, The beds are hard the food is dreadfull same swill every day even xmas day was no different but I have since found out that all were from Spains mainland and had their hotel bill paid for by the spanish government so could not complain, no doubt the billions of pounds we give Brusells pay for these pensioners, We did find a resturant nearby,The staff are rude as is the 2 week in the job manager who tells me he was a waiter before, one word to discribe this hotel Shizer

Room Tip: Top floor you wont get overlooked but if you want a sea view dogs barking all night and central heat...

Nice Hotel and very low price. We had half board included and it was very nice.
Very kind staff all around.
Close to the beach and supermarket around the corner.
We had view to the pool from second floor, but better view from higher floors.
There is a market on thursdays just around the corner where the supermarket is, and it is very nice to visit and do some shopping.
If you go away from the beach, there is a big square. There is a small kebab house. They make the best chicken in oven. Try it.....

Room Tip: Higher floors, better view.

“Excellent stay in September”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 5 November 2011

Sorry for the delay! but please read.

My boyfreind and I spent our first holiday together here at Hotel Reina Del Mar. We had an easy enjoyable stay from 14th September- 21st September 2011. We booked through Easyjet and found a good deal for both of us including flights, transfers, half board. We checked in at our hotel in the morning at 10.00 and were pleasantly surprised that we were able to access our room so early :D Great start! We had a balcony that we kindly requested and a sea view.

Our room was a little different than we had expected but it was very clean, and had all the amenties that we required. We had two single beds altough requested double. I think this is the same everywhere though? wardrobe and chest of draws with a big mirror. Dressing table and tv. The tv only managed to get one english channel and we had no controls but we didnt ask for some and it never bothered us as we were hardly in the room and could use the tv to change channels etc..

The bathroom was small and consisted of a shower in the bath, toilet and sink. The bathroom gets very hot but there is fresh linen everyday and soap, cups, shampoo sachets on arrival! Nice touch.

The balocony was a nice size with a table and two chairs. We had lovely views on level 7 of the sea, pool and bar area.

The only downside's we would like to mention is :

The room had no safe, The safe's are located near to the reception at ground level and has a key. We decided not to hire the safe and hide out valuables around the room. We had no problems with this but its personal choice.

Our room had no fan or fridge. We were pretty sure we would't have a fridge but dissapointed that there was no fan because the nights were hot! * You are able to hire both these items at an additional cost. from memory 20 euros for fan per week. 50 euros for fridge per week. The room also had sliding door, curtains and black out curtains so we managed with the doors open to keep the room as cool as we possibly could.

There was a small amount of noise from local neibours. We did hear some cars during the night including horns as the hotel is located next to a road. We also heard two dogs barking a few times during the night from local flats and appartments. and the bins being emptied at 1 am one night. To be honest these things didnt effect us and had no impact on our holiday but we could understand how this may irritate some people.
The hotel facilities were as expected, computer and internet facilities, lovely reception area and lounge. Good sized pool and bar area with a disco some nights. The dining room offered a good selection of food choices for morning and evening meals. Including breads, cakes, fruits, meats and veg options. hot drinks and juices available in the morning but additonal cost for evening drinks. Overall we were happy with the food. You get what you pay for and we considered the food and hotel as we expected. The dining room had lots of tables and was always clean with waiter/waitres's present.

The hotel is located opposite a supermarket! a five minute walk down the hill to the beach and shops. Upon the strip/beach front there are lots of bars, resturants and shops offering a wide selection.

We read lots of reviews once we had booked about the staff at this hotel. Everyone we met were very freindly and willing to help. In particular Suzanna stood out to us. She was always smiling and willing to chat to us. On several occasions we asked her to reccomend places to visit and directions etc.. We were very impressed. Suzanna is able to talk english and spanish and remembered our room number- Again a nice touch.

We took advantage of out time here in S' Arenal and explored the local area.
We visited the Water Park - ten minute walk, we hired bikes for 7 euros for the day per bike and cycled to Palma. A beautiful ride with lots to see along the way. We went on boat excursion for 2 hours which was an amaizing experince. Located on the beach frount and at 20 euros the boat had a bar which you paid extra, music and the chance to snorkel half way during the boat trip. There was a good market outside the hotel one of the days and lots to see just a short walk away. A short bus ride away is the Aquarium- worth visiting for a few hours but we had seen enough very soon. ** Lots of vouchers around for discounts- we found 5 euros off on the back of a map which we used to discount our two visits to the water park.

We particularly enjoyed walking to The Beach Club where we were able to play mini golf, listen to live music and enjoy the atmosphere.

We spoke to several couples and it is deff work looking for the cheapest deals often in Lastminute.com Eastjet.com etc.. as the prices differed a fair amount. Half board was great because we had our base for am and pm meals but we felt we would have been tyed down if we had full board. We also paid 20 euros for layte check out as we had a night flight back home. This is something we would deff reccomend we were able to enjoy the last day of our holiday and keep our luggage safely in our room. ( a few times we past the luggage room downstairs and the door was open)

All in all we had a really plesant stay here at Hotel del Mar in S' Arenal and would strongly reccomend this hotel and area for a relaxing cheap holiday!! Thank you for a lovely holiday

Stayed 22nd -29th Oct 2011

I have just stayed at this hotel with my fiance and 8 other friends & family. I am honest with my reviews and like to be fair also.

About the hotel surroundings... rating 0/5
The hotel is situated on a steep incline from the sea front approximately 3 blocks up, its not a very bad incline but is certainly not a relaxing stroll. Walking up the hill to the hotel you will find 2 bars an internet cafe and a hardware shop but not much else. The hotel is let down by its surroundings quite badly (the buildings surrounding it look like they are meant to be in the slumbs somewhere) where as the hotel itself is moderately decent looking from the outside. Theres a large supermarket directly opposite, a few bars and a small park area to the left.

Communial areas in the hotel... rating 4/5
It has a large reception area with comforable seating and 24 hour service and looks very clean with the floors reflecting lots of light with a marble effect and green sofas to relax on. The bar carries on the same trend and is situated just behind reception and is a considerable size, then the restaurant is to the right down some stairs also carrying on the same decorative theme with the food buffet style in the middle. We found all areas to be spectacurely clean. There are 3 elevators to carry you between floors although 1 had broken down a couple of times leaving one poor woman stuck for a short period!

Rooms... rating 3/5
I stayed in 1 twin room with a balcony pool facing and also inspected 2 others. The rooms were very, very clean... so was the bathroom/toilet, grouting between tiles was white with no mould, taps clean with no hairs in sink ect I couldn't find anything to complain about cleaniness wise. The bed was very firm and there were extra pillows. Thin sheets and extra sheets to be found in the wardrobe. The rooms are very basic with 2 side cupboards, 1 chair in front of a table with 2 draws and a small outdated tv set (which i never turned on!) The walls on the other hand were very thin and you can almost listen in to everything your neighbours had to say!!! luckily it was my brother and uncle next door but we could hear them snoring lol. The balconys overlook each other pool side as its an L shaped hotel so you can see those directly opposite and below you so not much privacy. The view on the top 3 floors give you a look at the sea but also the shacks of the building in the streets below. Not sure what the view was like the otherside of the hotel but can't imagine it being nice!!!

Hotel Pool... 2.5/5
The pool didn't look the best but was entertaining although freezing cold, the floors of the pool could have done with a good clean, looking a bit green in patches. It has a small childs area to one side seperated by railings from the main pool. Table and chairs around the pool are white plastic and clean and the sun loungers blue but bleached from the sun. Its was acceptable.

Hotel Staff... rated 5/5
All staff were friendly, an english woman on reception was very friendly and helpful when we needed her but she shares her shifts with only spanish speaking staff. The bar staff went out of there way to be friendly and funny.

Food... rated 0/5
OMG this was a massive let down... the food was terrible, the food remains mainly the same everyday selection wise... the first day i went down for breakfast the eggs were swimming in their own white stuff that was still clear and uncooked... boiled eggs were grey once cracked, bacon undercooked and not nice looking, sausages changed each day but never got better and looked like party sausages. We got to the point where we were dreading going for evening meals in the hotel. They seem to like veal alot! every day and pork scallops and white fish not much else to choose from apart from dried up veg and things i couldn't recognise!!! Deserts were the usual spanish cheap rubbish, jelly, cake, blamange (pardon the spelling) and fruit. We were sure that alot of the food left over from the last day went into the soup or made into something else but i cannot confirm this. THE FOOD WAS TERRIBLE. A couple of us suffered the squits!!! lol

Facilities/Entertainment... rated 2/5
Just 1 computer connected to the internet which you had to pay to use and free wifi but downstairs in the lobby and bar only. Showers next to the pool alongside the toilets. Pool table outside which wasnt covered over when it rained. LCD tv in the lounge and thats about it!
There was a DJ on a couple of occassions who just stood there changing CD's who didn't have a clue what he was doing with music ranging from Tom Jones to Pitbull then back to some spanish track! Bingo in the entertainment room and dancing.

I wouldn't recommend the hotel unless you are on a tight budget and can get it at a bargain price simply because of the area its in and the food being so bad.

Maybe it was because it was the end of the season late October, but it was like they ust couldn't be bothered to entertain or feed us properly.

There are some very mixed reviews of this hotel and I have tried to make mine fair and honest as possible, take a look at the pics i took and if you do book then you'll have a nice holiday but just not a memorable one.

Oh and all the good bars are a proper trek away up the front! we had taxis nealry every night.

Room Tip: Go for a high pool facing room so you can see the sea and not many people can stare at you from abov...

“Good Holiday”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 22 October 2011

Hotel Reina Del Mar was a fairly good choice for a couple of sixty year olds. A bit of a hill from the beach but not to daunting (approx 200 yards.) Service in the hotel was good with a high standard of cleanliness. No Air Conditioning makes it a 3 star, otherwise it would take little improvements to make it 4 star. Food was of a reasonable standard expected from a 3 star establishment. Overall we had a great week there.

Room Tip: Get on the 9th floor.
