We have visited Eurotel four years in a row with our two children, now 9 and 11. There are many things we love about the hotel, which have kept us coming back despite the things which could improve.
THE GOOD
Location, location, location! For us, this is a perfect spot: in a quiet, upscale hamlet, not on a road, away from the built-up areas. The hotel is embedded in pine trees, is right on the sea with spectacular views of the bay and hills. To take advantage of this, get a room on the top floor (7th), on the side of the hotel overlooking the bay and the hotel gardens which are beautiful (though not huge).
There is a well-stocked Spar shop 2 minutes from the hotel and 2 bar/restaurants if you want a change of scene.
The hotel is great for young(ish) children because the pools are safe, clean, sloping and lots of fun. Our two always meet others and make great friends each year. There are plenty of loungers for grown-ups, plus pleasant pool bar where you can have a pizza-ish lunch looking through pine trees to the sea.
Although the beach belonging to the hotel is not great, there is a jetty from which adults can swim out to a pontoon in the bay - superb!
There is a terrace for outside dining, breakfast, lunch and evening, and for drinks.
The clientele are middle class Europeans - only about 20 percent English.
Obviously in August there are lots of families, but you would expect that wouldn't you?!
There is also a very low key kids club every day if you want to get away for a few hours.
Good tennis facilities and table tennis, golf nearby.
See the website for a good representation of the hotel.
THE BAD
The attitude of the manager is terrible! I have made suggestions for improvements to him and he is smug and indifferent. I suspect he doesn't like Brits. Other staff can be cold and unfriendly, though some are good.
The evening entertainment (most nights) was fun the first year we came, but the acts are really very safe and dull (for the geriatrics only!). The hotel has a disco, but never uses it.
The breakfast buffet is good, but the evening buffet is just crazy! The salads consist of unrecognizable mixtures of wierd ingredients and the desserts are truly strange and unappealing. There is a huge choice but it is hard to find anything you really want to eat. We didn't return for the food!
Terrible bikes for hire.
THE INDIFFERENT
The rooms are large, comfortable and clean, but there is hardly any wardrobe space for all those holiday clothes.
Being in an isolated spot means you need a car if you want to see some life beyond Eurotel (and you will!!).

  • Liked — Lovely location, pools keep kids occupied
  • Disliked — The manager, the buffet, lack of wardrobe space

My husband and I stayed in this hotel for 2 weeks from 12-26 July 2008. I had read some mixed reviews on Trip Advisor and so was a little worried about what to expect, as it wasn't cheap (just over £2,000 for the flights and hotel half board). We don't have children and I would say that the key to enjoying this hotel is to stay there outside of the school holidays. When we first arrived the hotel was relatively quiet. There were a few children playing in the pool (which I had no problem at all with) and you could get a sun lounger by the pool throughout the day without much trouble. It was pleasant to sit and read and dip in and out of the water as the area itself is well landscaped and set against the sea and the mountains with only a few villas nearby.

As the 2 weeks passed the pool area became overrun and towards the end it was not a very nice experience (screaming children everywhere, people bomb diving into the pool all the time - probably quite good for families). One morning we were having breakfast at 7 a.m. before a round of golf and an English woman (I'm sorry to say) came down and "reserved" 7 sun loungers with some towels, which added an annoying layer of stress to the stay. As it got busier we felt forced out to the man made beach where you paid €3 each to hire a sun lounger for the day. The area itself was really lovely, but again towards the end of the holiday even this became overrun and we had to nip down when we woke up (around 9 a.m.) to put our towel under one of the relatively few umbrellas (Tip - take your own umbrella then you're more flexible, there is sand you can wedge it in). So we became the English woman we disliked so much! But we didn't feel so bad as we were paying for the lounger for the day.

The point is that the hotel facilities are not adequate when it is full.

The room we had was very nice (the standard double). The décor was relatively recent and modern and there was quite a lot of space. The bathroom was marble with twin sinks, so there were a few nice touches which made the room very good. My only complaint on the rooms is that I had emailed ahead and had a room on the 6th floor confirmed by the reservations department (as previous reviews had recommended a high floor) and when I got there they told me we had a 4th floor room. It was tough basically - despite complaining quite forcefully (in Spanish as I am fluent, which usually helps!). We let it go because the view from the 4th floor was still good, as was the room. If we'd been on the 6th floor we would have had a much better view, however. Tip - I recommend a back room on a high floor. Although you can see the area where the rubbish is thrown out, you can also see the sea and the mountains as long as you're towards the sea end of the hotel. Otherwise you will be overlooking the rather noisy pool.

The general décor of the hotel itself was also very tasteful and modern, with comfy sofas and fresh flowers inside and good outdoor furniture.

In terms of the food, we had breakfast and dinner almost every day as we were on half board. This was very good (and I love my food!). In both cases there is a buffet with staff cooking some items freshly. There is an outside element to the main restaurant, which we were big fans of. If you wanted to make sure you got a seat outside you either had to arrive when the restaurant opened at 7 or else come a little later, around 9, but it was well worth it. The service in the restaurant was particularly good, although throughout the hotel we had no complaints about the service other than in relation to the room we were allocated.

For breakfast there was a lovely selection of fresh fruit (pineapple, kiwi, oranges etc), yogurts, cereals (every kind you can think of), cured and cooked meats, breads and so on. Or you could have eggs, omelette, bacon, sausages, tomatoes cooked on request. A previous review made it sound like you had to wait an age for your hot food, which was misleading. Some items were cooked in a dish ready for you to help yourself. You had to wait a few minutes if you wanted something cooking freshly, but it wasn't a long wait and you are on holiday!

For dinner there was a lot of salad to choose from (lovely fresh rocket, cherry tomatoes etc), again some very nice cured meats, various prepared cold dishes and some tasty and often warm bread (sometimes bread in Spain is a little dodgy, but they had lovely baguettes, loaves, rolls). For the main course you could chose from a selection of hot prepared dishes (pasta, meat with sauces, vegetables, potatoes) or there were 2 hot plates where the staff cooked fresh meat, fish and seafood which varied from day to day (the prawns in shells were very popular, as was the squid). It was all very fresh and well prepared - not gourmet, but tasty. The lunch at the café bar was not very varied or particularly nice, so probably best to head out for lunch (although the Tuna salad was good).

That said, you are not within easy walking distance of the nearby towns (or much else) - this is part of the charm if it is what you are expecting, which we were. I would recommend hiring a car - most of the companies deliver the car to the hotel and pick it up again from their branches in Cala Millor. There is a hotel car park where we always got a space (you need a room key to get in and out). There are a few good golf courses, although not loads. The one which is nearest to the hotel (Son Servera) was a very pretty course (9 hole) which suited both me as a beginner and my husband as a good player. A nice day out is to Cap de Formentor. It's especially pleasant to have some food in the pizza bar by the beach which is on the road to the Hotel Formentor (very exclusive). The beach used to be private but has now been made public. You have to pay to park but then you can claim that back if you eat.

One word of caution, in the deeper waters (at least in July) there are loads of Jellyfish! My husband swam across the bay most days and got stung (mildly) on the face every time. I don't like the sea very much but I ventured in and unfortunately got stung quite badly (it got infected and I had to go to the minor injuries clinic on my return to England). So be careful! If you stay in the shallow waters, I think you'll be alright.

Overall, we had a lovely holiday which was slightly marred by the increasing busyness.

Just returned from spending 10 nights at the Eurotel Golf Punta Rotja. I agree with all the comments by the previous guest . We had a very relaxing, lovely holiday at this hotel with excellent service.
Pool area great with plenty of sunbeds, athough if you are a sun worshipper you might have to move sun beds a few times to keep in the sun, due to the shade from the trees. But not a problem, as I said plenty to go around. Didn't need to get up at the crack of dawn to get one ,although some clients obviously did as they managed the same spot every day - but you always get one!
The hotel gardens are very pretty, all very well maintained .
The Al a cart restaurant on site is placed in a nice setting overlooking the sea, but didn't use it as the food in the hotel dining room was excellent ,freshly cooked - if you didn't mind waiting a few minutes. There was a wide selection, even for the fussy ones amongst us.
Room was spacious, had fresh flowers, fruit and bottle of water on arrival. Had side sea veiw on the 7th floor. Room looked a little dated as carpets and wallpaper looked tired , but it was very clean, bed linen fresh and crisp. We had a deluxe room not sure what the difference was as looking at the balconies from the outside they all pretty much look the same size .
The area of Costa de los Pinos is very quiet and peaceful, which is what we wanted. It was very relaxing, and not far from major resorts if required . Overall an excellent holiday.

  • Liked — away from it all ,great service.
  • Disliked — nothing

We stayed at the hotel for 11 nights (4 adults, 2 late teens and 2 11 year olds) Shocking holiday - Just to mention a few things.

Getting a drink - At times had to wait more than a minute at the bar to be served and as for the service to the table, waited 30/40 seconds with an empty glass before anyone asked us if we wanted a drink.

Eating - The selection was to large (We go on holiday to get away from decission making) and the staff were way to keen to treat you well and prepare your food the way you like it

Pool - Other people in it and had to walk 2 yards to get to it. Went snorkling in the sea, only to find fish in it (Crazy)

Tennis - Stefan the tennis coach is impressive, never have I seen anyone so dedicated to duty, he will work himself into an early grave

Thankfully the people we went on holiday with were top notch, so unless your going with the Harveys dont bother going at all

6 Aug 2008 | Trip type: Family

We are a British family of 4 (2 adults & 2 kids 11 & 7), we would say that on the whole this hotel deserves its 4 star rating, but like all places there are a few minor niggles. We booked independently for a stay of 10 nights.

The hotel is about an hours drive from Palma airport and we arrived at about 7 in the evening in our hire car. There are a few parking spaces on the road leading into the hotel and 2 smallish car parks with entrance barriers. We stopped in front of the hotel to check-in and enquire about parking, I was asked to park the car before completing check-in and was given a card to operate the barrier. I tried the nearest car park where I could see spaces, but this is reserved for 'property owners' only (we discovered later that about a third of the accommodation is owned apartments). The 2nd car park was packed, so I ended up parking on the main road and was very fortunate to find a space only a few hundred yards from the hotel. Following, this first night I didn't have any problems parking in the 'hotel guests' car park.

The room (we booked a deluxe room) was very nicely decorated, with enough room for the 4 of us. The air conditioning worked efficiently and quietly and the bathroom was very nice, with a good shower and bath. Our view from the balcony couldn't have been better, a lovely view of the sea and pine covered hills. As an extra touch there was a complementary bottle of mineral water & a very large basket of good quality fruit. What appears to be a double bed is actually two singles pushed together. My wife found the bed to be quite uncomfortable and the pillows offered little support. The hotel can provide alternative pillows, but these seemed to concentrate more on catering for people who had an allergy to the material, rather than the support. Despite this I know we all managed to sleep well enough. Surprisingly they only provided balcony furniture for 2 despite there being 4 of us, so sitting at the table on the balcony required moving room furniture outside. We think it disappointing that the hotel charges for the use of the in-room safe. On check-in we was given a 1 hour 'free entry' to the spa area (jacuzzi, sauna, heated pool etc.) but it is (understandably) for adults only and we didn't get a chance to use it.

When we were there the clientelle was a good blend of mixed nationalities with; Britons, Germans, French, Spanish and I am sure several others. Many were like us families with children. The area around the hotel is very quiet, certainly not for those looking for a 'wild' night life.

Pool towels are provided free of charge, though you do need to leave a deposit, can be by credit card, of Euro 30 per towel. You return the towels to reception on check-out and your deposit is returned. We think that is reasonable and found the towels to be of good quality and never had a problem changing them at the pool bar or on some days by the pool itself. We were very concerned about availability of sun loungers by the pool, but we had no problems finding a good space for 4 with shade. Considering the time of year, I think we were probably lucky in that the hotel did not seem as full as I would have expected. The pool area is nice and very clean. It is really two pools and a paddling pool, none of which are particularly large. So it wouldn't be any good for anyone wanting to do serious swimming. There is also an indoor pool again quite small and in a block that in summer at least is very stuffy with the extensive use of glass. We used it once to please the kids, but with outside temperatures of around 30C, who wants to be inside!

The beach area isn't really a beach. It's a small area by the sea that has been paved, leaving a tiny patch of sand. Use of loungers & parasols in this area is charged for. Though, we never used them. The sea here is very rocky, but a pier has been built with steps down into the water. This avoids most of the low lying rocks, but you still need to be careful as there are still some rocks just below the surface. A swim-up platform has been built a little way out. The snorkeling is OK, but nothing special. There are a few rock pools that can be fun with kids.

We stayed on a half-board basis and found the food to be excellent. As it's a buffet there is some waiting in-line, but only if you want food from the hot plate cooked from fresh in-front of you. We took this option every time and was never disappointed. The selection was always of good quality, with good variety. The wine list was good but on the expensive side.

Hotel entertainment is non-existent during the day, except for a small kids club that would really only appeal to the under 6. My kids took one look and walked out. The evening entertainment is of a superior quality to the usal Costa fare, but it is very low key and is finished by midnight. Fine for us.

All in all we really enjoyed our break and would be very happy to return to this hotel again.
