“nice hotel pity about the cockroaches”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 5 September 2007

we stayed at the nissiana hotel on half board basis for a week in August 07. Whilst the hotel itself seemed clean and spacious, the management seemed reluctant to put the air conditioning on in the loby or dinning area making it hot and uncomfortable to eat. It was however a heat wave and there was little in the way of a breeze which apparently cools these areas.

our family room was big and spacious, we were thrilled at the huge balcony we were given. This unfortunately overlooked a building site which did not give us too many problems, but the views were a big disappointment as you can imagine.

On our first night in the hotel we found cockroaches in the bathroom, we reported this and the staff did get the room sprayed (on actually 2 occassions!) which still did not get rid of them! They then used a stronger spray which left the room stinking and this still did not get rid of them. We were quickly moved into another room which was clean but extremely cramped.

What worried me most was the fact that our first room was situated above the kitchen area and the cockroaches were getting in the bathroom through the plug holes. Both myself and 7 year old daughter could no longer eat the food and spent a fortune eating out as a family of 4.

The food was poor and did not seem fresh and the same meals were presented often 2 days in a row.

This hotel seem popular with the russians and there were few english staying here.

On a positvie note the kids loved the pool and it was large, clean and shallow .

In my opinion this hotel is ideal for people who want to be near a busy beach but far from the hussle and bussle of town life as it was situated 2 km from the town.

The highlight of the holiday was a taverna called the Kourakis Taverna, the staff were brilliant, they were friendly warm and loved the kids. We got gifts most nights and they made our last night really special. A true cypriot welcome which will stay with us for years to come.

“Loved it!!”

We have just got back from an all inclusive week at this hotel and i do have to say it was brilliant. There are a few downsides to it but don't let that put you off. I'll get the bad bits out the the way first then hopefully you will have forgotten about them by the end of the review!!
The food was very nice but repetative (spag bol 4 lunch and dinner everyday) there are themed nights most nights and on thursday night its suprise night...........the only suprise is that there is no spaghetti bolognaise on that night!!!!! I ended up having salads everyday cause it was the safe option. The italian night was by far the best.
To me "All Inclusive" should mean just that...not here it doesn't.
All Inclusive customers have their own "Drinks" menu, which means you can only have those drinks in the package. I asked for a 'milkshake' for my 4 year old and had to pay C£1.50 for it?? The Cocktail menu is also limited. Crazy golf also has to be paid for, all other equipment (tennis, table tennis etc is included).
I wouldn't recommend this hotel for children as there really is nothing for them to do apart from a small play area near the pool. There is no entertainment for children either so my 2 & 4 year olds got quite bored. There is a large adventure park about 15mins walk away, which we ended up at a few times in the evening, with bouncy castles etc...costing £4 per child...well worth it, keeps them entertained for hours....and there's a bar for the big kids!!
The hotel itself is very clean and well maintained, when we arrived i noticed our shower rail was missing and the only way of showering was to hold the head, i reported it to the excellent staff on reception and with in 2 hours we had a new rail put up. The pool area was lovely with plenty of free sunbeds. The restuarant and bar were also very clean/staff nice and friendly. We came out here as part of a wedding party. The wedding was across the road at the Nissi Bay hotel. Which was a 3mins away.
It takes about 45 mins to walk into ayia napa if youve got moaning children, taxi for £4 is well worth it. We got some bikes for the day (£5 each all day) and had a cycle into town which was nice, this took approx 15mins.
Nissi Beach is a 2 min walk across the road and is worth going to see, even if your not a beach person, it is beautiful to look at.
The harbour again is about 40mins walk (same senario with taxi). But again it is wonderful with plenty of boat trips, some as little as £2 pp for a 1and half hour trip.
All in all had a fantastic holiday and would definatly go back to Nissiana again in the future maybe for 2 weeks next time as 1 week went far to fast!!

  • Disliked — Repetative food in the restuarant and having to pay extra for certain drinks on all inclusive package.

“quiet”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 20 May 2007

Stayed here for week from 14th April 07. NIce hotel lovely and clean but like a graveyard at night! We were told when we booked all inclusive that there was entertainment. None the whole week. No pool snacks and the extra charge for sea view room was a cheek as only a scrap of the sea could be seen. When we complained to Olympic holidays we were told that it was out of season and out of there control. Would not travel with Olympic Holidays again and would not recomend the hotel unless you go to bed after dinner as not even piped music in bar while we were there!

“"Not what expected"”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 30 April 2007

We have just come back from staying at the Nissiana. We got married at Ayia NapaTown Hall and just wanted a lovely relaxing holiday. After reading quite a lot of reviews/feedback we were expecting quite an enjoyable hotel but didnt seem to get this. Firstly do not go in April if you are expecting some entertainment as it is low season and absolutely nothing going on. Playing pool was the only entertainment my 13 year old got. We have a 2 year old and there was nothing for her to do. The childrens playground is an absolute disgrace, full of ants nests and filthy. The plastic see-saw had about a quarter missing with sharp edges (very dangerous). The crazy golf too needs resurfacing. Clearly the management are not onto updating facilities. Cleaning outside is clearly not the top of their list either. The pool area was not cleaned as it should have been i.e. dirty paving area, cobwebs on the dining tables outside etc.

We went half board and have to say the food wasnt that bad although I have nothing to compare to as we usually go self catering. There is a wide range to choose from and they have themed nights every day of the week i.e. oriental, greek, international etc. The food could be a bit warmer though. Breakfast consists of full english, cereals, juices, fruits, yoghurts etc. I would recommend all inclusive rather than half board as the drinks are pretty expensive (it costs C£9 per person per day to upgrade). The rooms are cleaned daily and the maids are excellent and very friendly. Clean towels every day etc.

The hotel is quite a way from Ayia Napa town centre about 20 minutes walk. It does get a bit boring walking the same route but you can get a taxi for about C£4. They are renovating a hotel next door to the right and to the back of the hotel building a chapel but didnt seem to cause too much disruption. Just outside the hotel they were adopting a new road but again didnt seem to bother us.

All in all, I would not recommend this hotel in low season as the hotel seemed pretty full but nothing put on for entertainment, even the manager does not like music around the pool during the day!

“Positive surprise”

Since I went to Cyprus on a last-minute package tour, I was all worry for the quality of the hotel. Luckily, Nissiana turned out to be great. The staff was very friendly, the room was tidy and we had a great view of the sea, all conveniences were in place. There were two swimming pools, one indoor and one outdoor, and the indoor was available despite the fact that the holiday season hasn't started yet. Meals were ok, we had many dishes to choose from. Also, the prettiest beach in Ayia Napa was just a few steps away. The city center was a few kilometers far from the hotel, but the street that led there was full of shops and had a cycling track, so the walk was not boring - and there was a bus stop nearby. Generally, I can honestly recommend this hotel.
