One of our better holiday decisions was to choose the Grecian Bay Hotel which had been recommended to us. It has a great location thats hard to beat, right on one of Cyprus's best and most attractive beaches. Staying in a quieter area on the outskirts of Ayia Napia gave us the advantage of being able to take a pleasant stroll into town each evening, indulge ourselves at the town's great restaurants and bars, then walk it off a little on the way back to the hotel.
Staff at the hotel were always warm and welcoming, and the vibe was relaxed. The hot and cold breakfast buffet was excellent and came complete with help yourself bubbly; not that we felt the need to drink it every day, but I did enjoy the occasional bucks fizz/mimosa with my scrambled eggs and smoked salmon. Plenty to keep vegetarians happy too.
We stayed at hotel on a Bed and Breakfast basis, as we really wanted to take advantage of Ayia Napas restaurant scene. We had been recommended many good places to eat via members on Tripadvisor's Ayia Napa forum. It was the right choice for us, as we like to get out and about at least once a day above and beyond taking a leisurely stroll on the waters edge.
The attractive hotel pool could have been a little warmer for my liking but I still swam in it every day. They have an excellent system with the loungers where you can choose where you want to be for the entire week from a map; either around the pool or on the beach. If people don't use their allocated sunlounger by a certain time each day they become free for anyone to use. This offers a degree of flexibility if you fancy a change of scene.
The drinks are quite expensive at the hotel, but given that you can pretty much get bar service without having to leave your spot on the beach or besides the pool, its well worth it! Tip: the icecream at the pool bar is excellent and yet its pretty darned cheap compared to UK prices.
Our very nicely appointed room had decent air conditioning, crisp cool bedding, a generous balcony, and a minibar which we used to chill off the bottled water we bought at the nearby store. Saved us a fortune! There were lots of nice little touches such as the fresh fruit in our room on arrival and a daily chocolate; I'm easily pleased! The toiletries were also of good quality.
Ayia Napa has a reputation as a young people's party resort, but by the time we got there in September it was the end of the clubbing season. Most of the clubs had shut up shop, but the bars and restaurants were still doing a roaring trade, and the weather was comfortably hot. I'm glad however that we didn't stay in the centre of town. Staying at the Grecian Hotel offered us the best of both worlds, oh and that fabulous beach!
Room Tip: You might prefer a sea view balcony at extra cost, but the cheaper town facing rooms offer more shad...
