Anyone who has visited the 'Golden Triangle' of Almancil, Quinta do Lago and Vale do Lobo will know how high the quality is and how expensive the area is. We needed to stay from 7th - 14th September and the Dona Filipa wanted over £1,500 whereas Barringtons charged €105 per night for a large room and continental breakfast - €735 in total.
Ok so Barringtons is not really walking distance from the Praca and the beach (as far as my wife and her heels are concerned) but it is a short 2 minute drive. After coming to this area for 10 years I was sad to see parking charges now but I can understand why.
On the same subject Barringtons boasts squash courts, an excellent fitness suite, an indoor and outdoor pool, a putting green, a driving range, a pool bar, a restaurant and much more. I am told that new owners took over less than a year ago but can only make small changes without spending BIG money. Nevertheless, there is evidence of attempts to do so and the staff are very accommodating.
The outdoor pool is great and as this is a members club the management need to pay attention to the members' views on board as they are there a lot more than us tourists and it seems they want value. Barringtons provides excellent value and although the food is pretty average €10 per head for an all-you-can-eat BBQ is great value wherever you are.
The rooms are huge and have a wet room plus bath and separate shower, they also have a huge balcony with 2 x sunbeds and pads plus table and chairs. There is also a sofabed in addition to the main beds(s) plus chairs, tables and a dresser. There is also a kind of walk in wardrobe room with hanging space, drawers, a fridge/minibar and a roomsafe. The management have no issues with you buying wine/beer/water from the supermarket and cooling it in the minifridge, even providing a corkscrew!
We did this not to save money but because we like to end the day with a 'sundowner' prior to showers and heading out to a restaurant for dinner. Would we return - yes definitely. Are the stairs an issue - NO. We were on the 2nd floor and had to negotiate a total of about 40 steps to reach our room, however you do this once on arrival and once when you leave so it is not a big issue, unless you are old or infirm.
In short a great little place for chilling, sport, swimming, relaxing and so on. A good base for this area and great value. I will post some pictures as soon as I download them!
Room Tip: The Pool view rooms get the most sun on their balconies but the other side is more private.
