Just stayed 3 nights at Dona Filipa, rooms very dated but clean ,reception staff very miserable would say you dont exacly get a brilliant reception when you arrive,apart from the enthusiasm of the porter.
Breakfast was excellent and a nice selection. San Lorenzo golf course was first class but again did not feel great customer service.
We checked out after 2 nights to stay somewhere else and were not even asked why we were not staying for the 3 nights we had originally booked
Yes i would return but mainly to play the golf course and because the hotel is in a great location. I have stayed in many 5 start hotels and this is definately not one, it needs a serious overhall along with the staff!

The Dona Filipa Hotel is allegedly a 5 star facility (with 5 star prices) and was no doubt one in the 1970s. It has been in need of upgrading for some time and is now on its last legs. The only attraction to staying at the hotel is to play the San Lorenzo golf course (which the hotel owns) as the combined price of staying and playing is close to the green fee price alone. It is also close to the beach and the Praca. The hotel should be downgraded to a 4 or 3 star and the Val do Lobo management should encourage the hotel owners to invest in bringing the hotel back to its former glory. At a time of recession when other hotels (e.g. Hilton in Vilamoura is 80 euros per room b&b), are offering deals the hotel wants 180 euro a night. Unless you are on a golf package stay somewhere better and cheaper.

A good hotel, perfect location overlooking a great beach. 30 minutes from Faro airport. A short stroll away is a large promenade which has a variety of restaurants, bars, and live music in the evening.We enjoyed our room, which was very typical Portuguese in style and furnishing, with a view over a golf course and to the sea from the balcony. Breakfast was very good. The extra benefit was the golf at San Lorenzo which is a wonderful course with very challenging holes. A tip to all British Golfers is to hire your clubs at Clubstohire.com which is situated at Faro airport, we did and had 2 great sets for 35euros each for the week. Saved a lot of money by not paying the Cut price airlines extra costs for carriage. Given the opportunity we will be returning ASAP

Ideal base for recent golf trip with group of mates. Rooms fine for the small amount of time spent there. Breakfast is excellent as stated in other reviews. Bar is small and a little pricey. Golf course in excellent nick. Look forward to going again.
