Recently returned from another visit to this hotel. In a time when we are all under pressure nad many places in the Algarve have cut back in standards we were amazed that this hotel has been able to maintain the almost impeccable standards they have offered for many years. Of course the room rates reflect this.

The location of the hotel in a large natural parks is wonderful if a quiet holiday is sought.. It is a thrill to enjoy a high quality dinner in the outdoor restaurant. There are 3 other good restaurants near by for which if you like a walk it is not necessary to use a car.

This is a top European hotel .

The last time I wrote about this hotel was in 2004 after a change in ownership. I promised an update which I did write (promise) but the tripadvisor computer rejected it as it looked like a duplication!

Well, my wife and I have just come back from yet another wonderful holiday at this hotel. There has been some refurbishment in the past five years but I suppose that financial restraints could slow this work temporarily.

It is true that many of the bedrooms are not the most modern hotel bedrooms but they are well maintained and extremely comfortable. Housekeeping is excellent.

It is impossible to do justice to the staff. From the moment you arrive the service is impeccable and most importantly friendly. I have never experienced such a warm welcome anywhere.

Food in the restaurant is excellent and there are plenty of superb restaurants in the area. My only complaint (and I struggled to think of something) is that the glasses for fruit juice at the breakfast buffet are very small.

We have stayed in many hotels in Europe and America but this is our favourite - bar none.

We bought 6 weeks ( 3x2 ) since 20 years.. Everything was here perfect : the friendliness of the staff, clean and up-to-date studios ( 100 square meters to 300 square meters), luxurious outside and inside swimming pools. Sauna, jacuzzi, newly equipped gyms, perfect room service.

BUT ... since two years, our wonderful resort has turned into a nightmare. Noise of a new project, working witrh noisy instruments, even on sundays and holidays have transformed this beautiful project into a nightmare. Even with earstoppings ( those awful and greasy yellow things you put in both ears), life is impossible, and I have deeply thought about writing this.

We bought these weeks for 14125 euro's each. Go to see on the net, one of them is now 1000 to 1500 euro's worth. A real bargain ..if yo are deeply deaf.(forget about a hearing aid.) But a nightmare for normal hearing people.

I was at the Quinto Do Lago Hotel for one night and a meeting some days ago. The Quinta Do Lago is a real and good five star hotel. Outstanding qualities are definitely its location and the kindness and helpfulness of the employees (a real five star service). Room comfort is also upper standard and there are some gorgeous views from the hotel rooms. Pricing is ok.

There are nevertheless also some downturns: location is perfect but you may want to play golf of have a car to go around, because it is just distant from everything else you may want. Food in the restaurants was far from perfect (not fresh and the type of choices did not fit at least my tastes). I would wonder if they could ever pretend for any star from any guide.
