“Underutilised hotel in a great location”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 7 November 2011

person found this review helpful

This hotel is one of The Leading Hotels of the World. At €350 per room it is considerably more expensive than its 5 star Val do Lobo neighbour (Dona Filipe, rooms are not as nice here) and does not have the attraction of cheap golf. The rooms are comfortable and staff friendly but the breakfast is average and poor for a 5 star hotel. If the hotel upped its food standards, made its rates more competitive and obtained deals with the local Quinta golf courses, this hotel has the potential to be a star attraction in the area.

Room Tip: Book or ask for an upgrade to a sea view room

“Just be aware..!!”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 6 November 2011 via mobile

Just returned from a golfing holiday, all organised by the hotel. All the courses were excellent, and extremely well organised. Food at the hotel is also pretty good, bar prices are expensive, and mini bar very expensive. Location is a bit of a problem, the nearest bar/shopping centre is about 2miles away. Guests tend to be of the older generation (60+).. All in all not a bad place, but not 5 star..!! Also a little problem with vermin.!!

“A hotel where staff make your visit so wonderful”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 4 October 2011

We have just come back from a six day trip at this hotel and I have to stay it was so wonderful, you could not complain about the service the hotel provided and the pride they took in the hotel and surrounding areas. yes the bedrooms may be a little tired, But everything else was wonderful. Great cocktails, great food (if you stay longer than four nights there is a deal to include a three course evening meal and it is really worth this), good room service menu. The pool area was clean and the service was wonderful. Shall I go on. I was informed that the rooms were going to be updated so can't wait to return and see exactly what they have done.

“Sorry but we wont be back”

The hotel needs a facelift walk in showers in the bathroom please. We ate out at some great places as there was little or no atmosphere in the hotel.Great place if you are playing golf all day alas I dont. The day before we left I decided to treat myself and asked for a large wine as I was sunbathing at the pool, they served me it in a beer glass! Just to confirm to you readers I am female and quite petite. The rooms are also dark and dated. This is the first review I have written and I travel abroad four times a year. I complained about the room on first arriving but the only thing they could offer was a suite at more than double the price so the answer was no.Managers I never saw one and nobody introduced themselves to me.Sad but my worst holiday for a long time. We will visit the area again as we checked out some other hotels while we were there.Sadly this hotel was just not right for us

Room Tip: Dark dated and shower over the bath.

Dear Guest,

We are sorry to know that your stay with us did not meet your expectations. We thank you for your feedback, which certainly motivates us to further improve our services.

Regarding your facelift suggestion, we are glade to inform that we do have rooms with renovated bathrooms and walk-in showers, available on request.
We hope you chose to visit us again in the future. We took good note of your preferences and we can certainly suggest a room more suiting to your liking, which unfortunately was not available during your visit.

“We loved this excellent hotel and will return”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 27 June 2011

Just returned from a wonderful 11 days at this excellent hotel. If you want somewhere to relax and recharge the batteries this is the place. It overlooks the Ria Formosa, which is a national park, and the sea. There are some lovely walks along the lagoon and out across the wooden bridge to the beach where the hotel has its own beach chairs and umbrellas. There is a young man there who puts towels on the beds and has bottles of water available.
The WI-Fi in the room was terrible when we arrived but after we reported the problem it was sorted out very efficiently and now works very well. It costs €18 for three days.
The levels of service in the hotel are excellent. Some of the staff have been here for the past 25 years! They are all so friendly and helpful.
We had booked a lagoon sea view room and on arrival were shown to room 244. The hotel is built into the side of a small hill so we went down from reception to our room. It was a very nice large room, well fitted out with a lovely large balcony. The TV showed all the usual English satellite channels. We had a good sized bathroom and separate toilet. The shampoo etc were very nice quality and were refreshed regularly. Every day there was a plate of lovely fruit and a litre bottle of still water. There was a nightly turndown service. All used towels were replaced and a chocolate was left on your pillow. We slept really well in very comfortable beds.
The food in the restaurant is amazing. How someone in an earlier review could call the food average I have no idea !!! Breakfast is wonderful - as much as you want to eat. The chef is standing by to make omelettes, fried eggs etc. The fresh fruit is fantastic. In the evening the food is outstanding. The portions here are large! We never managed three courses and two was difficult!! We reckon the food is some of the best we've had anywhere so do give the restaurant a try during your stay.
There are some wonderful restaurant nearby if you want a change from the hotel.
We want to return to the hotel so we decided to ask about the various different room types in the hotel. You can imagine our surprise when the lady on reception informed us we were in a lagoon side garden room!!!! On arrival we had been allocated the WRONG room!! As we could see the lagoon and the sea - just about through the trees - we hadn't queried the room type. The staff were very embarrassed and because we had been in our room for a week already we didn't want to move to a sea view. Our bill was adjusted so everything was fine in the end. Just make sure you get the right allocation on arrival. The lagoon side rooms are the nicest in our opinion. The gardens are beautiful.
It's a very quiet hotel so if you want entertainment this isn't the place for you. Once a week there's a Managers Cocktail Party.
There were quite a few children in and out during our stay. There is a children's club in the grounds.
We would recommend a car for all or part of the holiday.
The ONE negative is the aeroplane noise as the hotel is near Faro Airport runway. We got used to it and it won't stop us returning to this excellent hotel.
Thank you to all the staff for a wonderful holiday. Be warned you will see us again!!

Room Tip: The lagoon side rooms have lovely views
