We travelled with Shearings and having read previous reviews were a little apprehensive. We booked a twin bedded room but were amazed when we opened the door to find one extremely large bed (must have been king size) and a double made up from the sofa. The result was a lack of space between the let down bed and the window, n ot to mention the metal corners on which I kept banging my legs. However the room was large and very clean as was the bed linen. The only draw back was the heat. We turned the thermostat down to nil and still the room was stuffy. We kept the window open all the time but have to say we heard no traffic, indeed we found it very quiet and peaceful. We reported the problem with the heat and for a few hours it improved then reverted back. Th bathroom was very clean and modern but we did not like the wash basin. I am only 5ft tall and it was too high for me. Also the shower floor is VERY slippy so if you are a little unsteady, or elderly, or both, please be aware that you could fall. I overcame this by placing a towel on the part of the shower floor just before you step out. I also hung on to the towel rail. This hotel is NOT geared for the disabled. Please note hotel administration, EU regulations. I was NOT impressed with the service from the bedroom maids. The only way to get clean linen was to drop the dirty towels on to the floor of the shower, and it is very exasperating to have to godown to reception to get a couple of tea bags or milk. They were never renewed and I consider sloppy service to be unacceptable. Now to the lift and the gremlins that live therein. For some daft reason although our room was 384 we were on the second floor. The left hand side lift would come for us when we called it, but it refused to take us to the second floor from the ground floor. The right hand lift would not come as long as the left hand lift was there. We had to go up to the third floor in the dodgy lift then call the other lift to take us to the second floor. Crazy innit? Please don't ask why we just didn't use the stairs. We have good reasons I promise. The hotelstaff there were excellent.Very friendly and helpful and not a bit like they have been painted, however I must make one exception and that was the individual who appeared to be in charge of the dining room at dinner. This is one of the most ignorant, arrogant and hostile men I have ever encountered in my entire existence. All the other waiters were very nice and smiley. I called him over and said very politiely, "Excuse me, but would you mind changing this knife for me; it is very dirty (it was, with dried congealed food stuck to it) He grabbed the article andif looks could kill, I would be stone dead on a slab!! He returned a minute later with a clean kn ife which he thrust at me, just missing the jugular. Never a smile, never a word of apology.I am angry at such contemptuous treatment. He obviously feels it is beneath him to wait on we British, but perhaps someone should take him to one side and inform him that if it were not for members of our families dying on French soil, he would be walking around now speaking German not French. Several of our tour have complained and asked for his name but quelle surprise! NO ONE KNOWS IT and the hotel reception have promised to comtact us, but of course they haven't. Such a pity he is such a bad advertisement for a nice hotel and it reflects badly on the other staff. I have to mention in passing, the food. The breakfast was very varied and more than adequate except the bacon, sausage and egg were n ot kept warm. We always had a good salad selection. Two of the meals were very nice but one evening we had fish I couldn't eat it. White fish in a runny sauce with white rice on a white plate, so I stuck to the salad. Desserts?? tart every evening. Ourtside decor round the pool very pleasant. Walk through the park at the back of the hotel and you will find the Trois Fontaine shopping mall, around 200 shops and jjust the place for some retail therapy. I tried to make it to the port and to Pontoise on the local buses but thoiugh there seemed to be regular service to Pontoise, the bus for the port never showed so I gave up. All in all this was a very pleasant visit with the notable exeptions mentioned. Perhaps if the management fix the fresh air system, the dodgy lift and persuade Manuel in the dining room to attend Charm School we will feel less like we have visited Fawlty Towers and more like Novotel, but please don't judge all the staff by him. Enjoy your stay and happy landings!!
Room Tip: our room was to the left of the hotel entrance (facing) It was no384. Nice room but very hot.
