“First Time At Der Berghof”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 12 January 2012

Having never stopped at this hotel before or,indeed, this resort,we were most impressed with both Der Berghof and Lech.
I would have no hesitation in recommending either and will return.
The only criticism is that the hotel is not smoke free...but that is only the bar area and it is split into smoking and non-smoking..
As regular visitors to the French resort of Courchevel,by comparison there was a very noticeable lack of Russian skiers in Lech at the time of our visit.

Kind greetings to England…

We thank you very much for your appreciated statement on Trip advisor. We are pleased that you had an enjoyable stay with us and that Lech was up to your expectations. You are very right about the smoke in the bar/lounge area. We are aware that the actual situation is not an ideal one and we are actually working on a better solution. We would be delighted to welcome you again with us and remain with warm regards from Lech,

“Returning every year!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 4 September 2011

We have stayed at the Berghof with family and friends for several years running and have always had wonderful experiences. I highly recommend this cool mountain resort for its comfortable accommodations, delicious food, and warm hospitality.

The decor is a cross between authentic Austrian style--carved natural wood beams, old painted armoirs--with enough modern touches--broad-shaded wrought iron chandeliers, sleek bathrooms and lighting--to make for an appealing and sophisticated setting. The lobby is comfortable with overstuffed couches and chairs, some with coffee tables and some with taller card tables. It surrounds a huge stone fireplace that warms the winter evenings--a perfect place to have a drink or after dinner coffee. They also display an impressive tea service--you can choose your own exotic blend from one of the many glass jars. Each is served with a timer and specific directions for brewing time.

The morning meal is a generous array of typical European buffet breakfast dishes: soft boiled eggs, sausages, creamy yogurts, wonderful meusli (the creamy kind with grains, yogurt, and freshly grated apples blended in--yum!), sliced cheeses and meats, fresh fruits, and all kinds of crunchy breads, delivered each morning. You can even make your own fruit and vegetable juices. There are also more American style choices each day: scrambled eggs, bacon, sausage, and french toast or potatoes, etc.

We eat lunch on the mountains, but the sun terrace is a lovely place to have an apres-ski snack. We did enjoy a tasty lunch there on the day we arrived this past year.

Dinner is a five-course meal with 2 or 3 choices for the main course. There is always an option for children or picky eaters--we had one friend who always ordered a tomato and mozzarella salad for dinner, another who chose spaghetti bolognese. The food is excellent and exciting--small portions, but logical for five courses. Besides, there is an extensive salad bar that is meal-worthy, including not only greens and dressings, but smoked fish, pickled vegetables, cheeses, and other more filling additions, the ever-present crusty breads, and an incredible cheese cart that you may choose instead of or in addition to your regular dessert. You will not go hungry at the Berghof!

The staff are friendly and helpful. You'll get to know your morning and evening servers in the dining room well, as they will get to know you. In a few days they'll likely anticipate your requests, making terrific meals even better.

The rooms in the original section of the hotel are cozy and quaint. We've stayed in large doubles and suites. It's true that all the beds are two smaller mattresses pushed together, but that's typical in the region. The bedding is fluffy and comfortable, and we've never had an issue with this. Also common in Europe is a hand held sprayer in the tub, with a partial glass door. Sometimes the water escapes the tub area, but I believe that's the answer--they're meant for baths and rinsing, not full-on American showers. Most importantly, the bathrooms, and the rooms, are spotlessly clean.

The new wing is very cool--decorated in warm modern--with rich wood floors and sleek furniture. And heated bathroom floors! We loved how the lights went on along the hallway as we approached our room.

I don't use the spa, but some of our party visited the sauna/steam room every day and were quite pleased.

The location is ideal--in the center of town just a few yards from the cable car and across the river from a base lift. An elevator will take you and your skis quickly down to street level, and back to the hotel when you're tired after a day of skiing, so you get the best of both worlds in just a short ride: the bustle of town and the quiet of the hotel.

Can't go wrong with this friendly spot!

“The perfect place to relax and unwind”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 31 August 2011

I never thought I'd be someone to keep returning to the same place every year but, since we found the Berghof 5 or 6 years ago, I need to keep returning for my we of relaxation and pampering. Nothing is too much trouble.

“Lots of positives but far too many negatives”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 3 April 2011

There were many positives in the Berghof but unfortunately a few negatives too. The location is perfect, the spa and the sun terrace are fantastic, the food was good and the staff as a whole were friendly. However, there were quite a few minor issues which dampened our stay slightly.

The room was adequate, but the bathroom was tiny. There was a retractable glass shower curtain which did not do it's job, meaning every time we showered the bathroom was flooded and the water leaked into the bedroom, soaking the carpet. When we informed reception of this, they said "yes we know about it but there is nothing we can do". Not the response you would expect from a 4* hotel, especially as it was not full and they could have moved us to another room. Also found it odd that our double bed had twin single mattresses rather than a double mattress. We were told there were no double mattresses in the whole hotel. Really?

The staff were helpful overall, but the house-keeping staff disturbed our mid-afternoon sleep for the turn down service despite the fact that the 'Do Not Disturb' sign was displayed, which showed a complete lack of professionalism.

Another minor issue is that we asked for a wake up call which never came, meaning we were almost late for ski school.

Finally, a barman overcharged us, I'm sure honestly, but then was unapologetic and rather rude when we informed him of his mistake.

All of the above are mostly minor complaints, however, these need to be ironed out for the hotel to be considered top class and because of this we would not consider returning to the Berghhof.
