“It left a sour taste in our mouths...”

Myself and my boyfriend recently travelled to the Abbey Beach resort.. i think the email I sent to management after our stay explains the dissapointment of our stay:

''ATTN: General Manager
Myself and my partner stayed in the Abbey Beach Resort on Saturday night. We booked into room 27S and were pleasantly surprised by the room and view. We heard that the hotel was quite full so we decided to treat ourselves and made a reservation for the Brasserie restaurant for later that night.
We ordered a starter to share and two mains as well as planning to have dessert.
We started with ‘A taste of the Orient’. Overall the dish was mediocre. The tempura prawns and duck spring rolls were as good as it got. The squid stuffed with mince was chewy, the beef skewer looked like it had been sitting there a week and the rice paper rolls were completely tasteless and almost inedible (when we told the waitress this she said that the dipping sauce was there to provide the taste).
Our mains arrived 45 mins later. My boyfriend ordered the duck and myself the veal. The duck main course would not have fed a child. A tiny serve of duck breast with 2 rings of sweet potato and 5 mangetout hardly classified as a meal let alone warranted charging $42!! We immediately asked for potatoes/vege or anything that would mean that he wouldn’t walk out of the meal hungry.. however as both our meals had been put on the table we did specify that if it couldn’t come out within the next 4-5 mins then not to worry about it. Although we ate the meal slow, the half cooked fries came out by the time my boyfriend had finished the meal so we turned them away. My veal was absolutely dry with no taste at all. Apparently the green in the middle of the veal was supposed to be spinach and pine nuts but it was tasteless. To be charged $46.60 for a meal this bad is an insult. Needless to say we finished off our bottle of wine and decided against having dessert.
We went to the counter to pay and complain and the waitress told us that she would pass on our comments. At no point during or after our meal were we asked if the food was ok or was there anything else that we would like. We paid for the meal in full which came to $145.30 and then went to the reception desk to ask to speak to a manager as we didn’t get any satisfaction from our complaint to the waitress.
The manager on duty, sympathised with our complaint and told us that she would put a comment against our room number and that she would speak with the manager and f&b manager and would give us feedback when we checked out in the morning.
Apparently we weren’t the only people disappointed with the meal that night as another couple who had heard us complain called us over as we were walking back to our apartment to tell us that they too had a very poor meal.
We checked out the next day and had to ask whether there was any feedback from our complaint. The girl on reception went to ask the manager on duty and came back to tell us we would receive a phone call later that afternoon once the manager was able to speak to the f&b manager.
We did not receive a phone call and as yet have not received a phonecall. We are very dissapointed with the service we received and this has added to the already sour taste in our mouths.
If you would like to call me regarding this email you may contact me on 04xxxxx or my boyfriend 04xxxxxxx.
We intend to post our experience on tripadvisor as well as spreading our experience to our friends.
I look forward to your response,
Regards
xxx and xxx ''

We still have not received a response from the hotel which is very dissapointing, if our complaint was dealt with effectively on the night (i.e. a refund on the food or a voucher for a future stay) we wouldn't have minded so much but the after service was as poor as the food and I definitely would not recommend this resort to anyone.

Dear Guest, I am disappointed in your comments. I responded to your email on the morning of the 15th February. I was unable to respond until I had information from the Food Service Manager regarding your comments and she was on RDO’s until yesterday. Once the information was gathered I responded personally. I do not intend to ‘copy and paste’ my response to you, but would like to comment that the Food Service Manager ( whom you spoke to on the night) feels she dealt with your comments satisfactorily, all be it not to your satisfaction, considering you left no food behind on any of the plates from which you ate.

“3 night stay with an infant”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 10 February 2012

We travelled to the Abbey Beach from Joondalup for a short break and were very pleased with the hotel. Check in was ok. We were given a room away from the pool area, even though we had requested one overlooking the pool. This was a bit dissapointing but it didnt spoil the weekend. The room was great with everything we needed and a great size. The whirlpool tub was lovely for relaxing in. The hotel seemed very quiet considering the time of year we were staying and we had the pool areas to ourselves most of the time. The hotel grounds are beautiful and the beach is only a short walk through them.

“disappointed”

On our first night we decided to eat in, and tried to turn the radio on for ambience while we ate on the balcony overlooking the pool, however it wouldn't turn on as there were no batteries in the remote. We rang reception at around 6.30pm who said they would send someone up, however no one ever came. On the second day we turned on the tv to watch a tennis match, however it wasn't working. Reception told us the problem was being looked at by technicians. We went out and returned with dinner to eat and wanted to catch the mens' game, however the tv still wasn't working. We went down to reception who said the problem was being looked at by technicians. Upon asking for an expected time it would be fixed, we were told we could watch the tv in the bar. Other people were phoning reception while we were there. Later that night upon asking, reception said the problem was being looked at by reception. The telly was never fixed. I can't be bothered telling the rest, we left our positive and negative feedback on the hotel's form, but have never heard from them which, given the uncaring attitude of the staff we encountered while we were there, doesn't surprise me. Had the room been less expensive, I would have expected less. Perhaps a coffee or morning tea voucher may have gone some way towards an expression of regret for the mishaps.

Dear Guest, I am disappointed to hear your comments. I truelly apologise for maintenance not attending to the batteries in the remote. In regards to the TV issue we did have technicians working on the problem until the early hours of the morning, when they found the problem it needed parts and they could not be accessed until later that day, hence why staff could not give you an answer to how long it would take on the night, as they were unaware, as where the tech’s until they found the problem. Our only solution to the problem was to offer the TV in the bar which we did, I am sorry this was not satisfactory to you. To say our staff is uncaring is unkind and un true, they try extremely hard to please all guest. We received many comment sheets, over the issue, most understood the predicament we were in. Comments such as yours contain valuable information and insights for future guests and help us strive to continue improving our customer service. We look forward to hopefully welcoming you back to Abbey Beach Resort in the future. You can stay in touch with us for great deals and specials on our website, via facebook, twitter or Foursquare.

“Sea Facing Beauty”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 6 February 2012

This was our first holiday out of Perth since we arrived 20 months ago and what a fabulous time we had at Abbey Beach Resort. On booking I was told we would have a first floor unit, sea facing with a balcony. On arrival we walked into the most spacious unit with a beautiful sea and pond view. The unit was well presented and clean. Beds were beautifully made and everything was in order and very clean. The main bedroom had a walk in shower and spa bath. The second bathroom had a walk in shower, toilet and partnered onto a laundry with a wash machine and tumble drier. Very well organised. The indoor pool was a hit as the temperatures soared to 39 degrees it was great to have a roof over ones head. The outdoor pools are fenced having loungers and umbrellas for comfort. A sheltered BBQ overlooking the pond is well placed for evening dinner while being entertained by the many ducks and ducklings. The gardens are well trimmed and the driveway leading to the reception is very attractive with the cascading fountain. The staff were friendly at all times. We were fortunate to see 2 possums dinning on the leaves of the peppermint tree at our balcony. A path leads onto a sandy beach with calm water and a cycle path meanders along the beach for many kilometres. Abbey Beach Resort is very central and daytrips can be undertaken to other attractions in the area, there is plenty to see. A splendid place for a family holiday.

Room Tip: Luxury sea facing unit.
