“great beachside location, fantastic value”

Hubby and I took advantage of a day off to try out the newly acquired Wyndham Resort Torquay. We found it well-equipped with a lap pool, gym, spa, outdoor pool, bar and cafe and fine dining restaurant. The room was clean and comfy and best of all it was a mere stone's throw away from the beach. We missed having dinner at the fine dining restaurant as we've been out for a long drive to see the 12 Apostles so we had dinner at the bar cafe while enjoying the tennis on one of the many flat screen TVs. I must say the fish and chips I had was the best ever the prawn pizza hubby had was superb. More pleasant surprises came with the bill. 4 drinks and the meals only cost us $58 how good is that? Service was excellent too. Will definitely come back.

“Beautiful location but dissapointing”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 28 January 2012

The resort is right on the beach but walk to the room was a long distance from the reception and car park. It had no direct access and you had to go up 2 different lifts to get to the room. The room faced onto a wall.

Room Tip: Ask for a room with an ocean view or one close to reception to save you walking a long distance to g...

“2 night stay...”

My husband and I stayed for 2 nights with the possibility of staying 3. We tried to get the same midweek rate for the Friday night which would've been $40 less but they wouldn't budge. Due to the weather being quite ordinary while down there we decided to see what the weather had installed for us. It was still quite cool after that 2nd night so we opted to put that money towards a trip into Crown Casino, Melbourne. With that said we were upgraded to a pool view room which over looked the grounds which is lovely. The room itself, like others have said is on the smaller side but quite comfortable. The hallways and room were quite stuffy/warm so it was necessary to open the window. Air conditioning was available but personally I don't like the air blowing right down on me while I'm trying to sleep. Cocktails were nice and overall the staff were quite pleasant and accommodating. Parking is limited so we opted to pay $7 per day to park in the basement. The weather was blowing a gale and the rain was torrential at times so it was worth paying the extra $$ to have direct lift access to our floor. We had run to our car previously outside and got quite wet. One more thing...our room wasn't serviced and I would normally expect this from a 4.5 star resort.

“GREAT STAY, Thanks Guys.”

Firstly to those travelling to Wyndham Torquay, take the valet parking option its saves a headache of trying to get car parking, and the car is not 50 plus degrees. I choose to pay I think it was $14 per day for the 5 days, and I was there, and watching others try to park outside in the 40 degree heat – let’s just say $14 worth the investment. I enjoyed my pool facing apartment, this year we only took my son, and the sofa bed was like sleeping on railway tracks, the sofa was very substandard, but thanks to Craig the manager for arranging a solution to our problem, my son sleep well each night but the sofa beds are of a poor quality. The room was very clean despite a few additions in the room, which Craig took care of straight away, and the room was serviced well each day. This year we ate in the sandbar mostly, good to see Josh again – it was like catching up on old times. Although the bar needs some attention as used plates and food stayed outside for on some occasion’s for hours. We did not eat in the restaurant this year but the people I spoke with liked the food. Also thanks to Eddie for our small welcome gift. For those travelling to Torquay Craig and Eddie will look after you, great to see you both are still there, and look forward to booking in for next year.

Room Tip: Ask for a poolview room, and upgrade to apartment.

“Poor customer service!”

I stayed here when it was the Crowne Plaza six months ago and decided to take my two young children back for a couple of nights in the Summer. After a dozen attempts to get through to reservations I finally spoke to the rudest reservations consultant you can imagine. Clearly, he did not want to take a reservation and tried to upsell me to an apartment for my two children and I (which I cannot afford). After requesting a similar room to last time he advised me I was not allowed to stay in that room due to fire and safety regulations! I have stayed in Hotels around the world 5 star to hostels over 20 years and for this hotel during a family season his attitude was ridiculous. It is a shame that such a wonderful family/conference resort can be spoiled by unfriendly staff.

If you must stay here book online and avoid speaking to reservation staff.

Room Tip: Book online!!!!
