“A Secluded Treetop Cabin”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 9 July 2011

Despite being a couple of kilometres from the centre of Lorne's busy shopping and dining Esplanade, Qdos Treehouses are set in bushland and feel hundreds of kilometres away.
Each one is beautifully finished, with nice touches like the bathroom counter made from a polished tree, handmade cups and ramekins made on site, and the shoji screens and tatami mats. Other reviews have complained about the size, but they are clearly designed for two people, and while not like an apartment, each treehouse is much bigger than some hotel rooms I've seen.

The bed was very comfortable, and the room had ample heating and hot water. The rooms don't have a TV or phone (but there's ample 3G reception if you need it) giving you a chance to avoid modern day distractions.

The breakfast was fantastic- large bowls of homemade muesli with fruit and yoghurt, freshly squeezed juice, and large slabs of delicious toast with homemade jam. All presented on their organic-looking ceramics.

Aside from a few spots that looked like they were missed by the vacuum, and a blackout on a particularly stormy night (out of control of the Qdos staff of course) our treehouse stay was really special, and we would recommend it to anyone looking to try something different to the run of the mill hotels/apartments in Lorne.

“VERY UNDERWHELMING”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 12 January 2011

We stayed at Qdos in winter 2010. The room itself was TINY. We were asked to remove our shoes before entering. The bed took up approx 20% of the entire floorspace (inc bathroom and kitchen area). The room was very difficult to heat. The shower leaked, making the floor slippery. The water temperature for the bath was luke warm. If we opened the blinds, people could see in from the gallery. The lighting was terrible, too dark. Plunger coffee and handmade mugs were a nice touch., although milk was not refilled. Overall very disappointing for $250 per night despite the beautiful location.

“Private, peaceful, quiet, and comfortable”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 31 December 2010

The first thing my husband said when we arrived at Qdos was, "WHERE do you find these places?" We stopped in Lorne for a night last March while driving The Great Ocean Road. Lorne itself is a lovely little town, but we decided we wanted to spend a night a bit away from the town itself, and so selected Qdos after digging around on the internet. I made all the arrangements through their website and via email. Unfortunately, we stayed on a Tuesday night so the restaurant was closed and we didn't get to enjoy the included breakfast, although there was a small coffee bar in the room itself. There was only one other treehouse occupied, so it felt very remote, which was wonderful. The bed was comfortable, and we had a great night's sleep after having a nice dinner down in Lorne.

I would absolutely recommend Qdos if you want to stay out of town and enjoy a bit of the forest. It's been a while since we were there, but I think it's about a 5-10 minute drive from the center of town. After we checked out in the morning, we drove to Erskine Falls and did the hike down to the bottom, which was great.

Qdos might not be good for anyone with mobility issues as we had to haul our luggage up an uneven path to the treehouse (ours was called Tsuki) which was no problem for us, but might be for some. Also, not sure how much service is available when the restaurant is open, but for us, we were completely on our own. The owner was out of town, and he left us a message on our rented cell phone telling us that the key was taped to the door. We thought that was fine, and since we're pretty self-sufficient, we saw no problem with this and enjoyed our privacy, and in fact prefer that. Folks who are used to room service, bellhops and the like might not fare as well. Again, not sure how it is there when everything is open and in full swing.

I've included some pictures so you can see how beautiful the property is - it's really quite lovely.

“The Art of Relaxation”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 25 January 2010

I wanted to take my wife on a relaxing break for her 40th birthday and I was looking for somewhere special. Qdos fitted both those requirements and I was very pleased I made the choice.

On arriving at Qdos about four minutes from the centre of Lorne, we both felt the stresses and strains of city living draining away. The lack of TV and radio was a definate plus, with the sounds of the national park surrounding the accomodation making you feel away from it all.

In the morning the breakfast was huge and served with fresh orange juice and tea/coffee. Eating breakfast while surrounded by lovely artwork is a great way to start your day. The sculptures around the grounds are lovely and add to the overall arty ambience.

Qdos is behind Lorne up a steepish hill and gravel track. You will need a car to travel back and forth, but this will only take two minutes and well worth getting away from the main street.

The rooms aren't serviced daily and you simple ask for more towels if needed which suited our requirments. The bed was a little soft, but I think that was more personal preference rather than accomodation issue. Wardrobe space is limited, but this is a place to stay for a few days so should meet most people's requirements.

Glenis and Graham (brother & sister) run a lovely place to stay if you are looking for a quiet and arty getaway.

“Fabulous, unique experience in a Romantic venue.”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 8 December 2009

We spent one night at the Qdos Arts Treehouses and loved it. Very peaceful. No TV, no music - just the birds and a wine opener. The attention to detail is incredible. No stone is placed without thought. The bed and linens were top of the line comfort. The treehouses are in a park with a sculpture garden. We could hear the koalas and the kookaburras and other assorted flora and fauna. One of the most romantic places we have ever stayed.
