Despite being a couple of kilometres from the centre of Lorne's busy shopping and dining Esplanade, Qdos Treehouses are set in bushland and feel hundreds of kilometres away.
Each one is beautifully finished, with nice touches like the bathroom counter made from a polished tree, handmade cups and ramekins made on site, and the shoji screens and tatami mats. Other reviews have complained about the size, but they are clearly designed for two people, and while not like an apartment, each treehouse is much bigger than some hotel rooms I've seen.
The bed was very comfortable, and the room had ample heating and hot water. The rooms don't have a TV or phone (but there's ample 3G reception if you need it) giving you a chance to avoid modern day distractions.
The breakfast was fantastic- large bowls of homemade muesli with fruit and yoghurt, freshly squeezed juice, and large slabs of delicious toast with homemade jam. All presented on their organic-looking ceramics.
Aside from a few spots that looked like they were missed by the vacuum, and a blackout on a particularly stormy night (out of control of the Qdos staff of course) our treehouse stay was really special, and we would recommend it to anyone looking to try something different to the run of the mill hotels/apartments in Lorne.
