We were travelling with family who were attending a function at the DEC. The location of this place was very handy to the DEC, but actually finding how to get into the park in the first place is a little tricky, and signage isn't terribly helpful.
As we arrived late at night, we were able to locate the keys to the safe well enough, but then had a shocking time trying to find the cottage we'd rented. It turns out there wasn't much space (despite the advertising you can park outside the door) to park our car, and had to walk the kids up a dark path to the door in the middle of the night. I also didn't like the fact we were unable to see the car from the cottage at all.
The cottage itself had dated decor but overall wasn't below my expectations for what we were paying. One room had all matching doona covers and the kids were happy to see the toys available to play with. It was clean and tidy which I would expect from anywhere I was paying to stay at.
On the first night, we were kept awake by a neighbour's dog that barked continuously right out side the bedroom window. It wasn't until the next morning I realised how close the neighbours are to the park. I feel the advertising that the property is on "acerage" is a little deceiving as it gives the impression of space and quiet, which unfortunately we found to be the opposite. The rest of the park however was nice and quiet.
It was disappointing to see that the games room was closed due to vandalism, and the children's park was not anything exciting. However, a discussion with the owners during checkout revealed how a sports team that stayed months earlier had absolutely trash the place, so it's to the owner's credit that they are still open. I also understand that the economic climate has left a shortage of funds to rectify a lot of what has been done.
The second night was a lot quieter and we all had a comfortable night's sleep. We were glad we'd come prepared with our own food as the small milk in the fridge was out of date by two months. Again though, further conversation with the owners revealed an invoice that proved they had only just had the milk delivered and were supplied with out of date milk that week. They appeared just as mortified that the milk was out of date and by so much, and made immediate plans to replace the milk in each cabin.
Overall, this place isn't what I'd call premium, but neither is the price. We had two families travelling together, so for a self contained, 8 bedroom, two bathroom property, I'm satisfied that we got what we paid for. However, I do note we stayed in an off peak season, so I wouldn't be prepared to pay any more than we did if the price went up for the summer season.
