“Not a resort! Don't waste your money!”

This property is by no means a resort. The condition of the entire property is very average and nothing like a resort standard. The pool is old and unheated. The tennis court is mostly gravel and too dangerous to use for tennis. We booked the “two bedroom apartment” which is not a two bedroom arrangement at all. It is in fact a loft (open to the whole apartment), with a queen bed and a terribly small room (also in the loft area) with two single beds crammed in. The sleeping arrangements are unsuitable for four adults as you need to walk a narrow path next to the queen bed to reach the bedroom containing the single beds. As a result there is no real privacy and the only bathroom is down a steep set of stairs. The “kitchen” is a tiny space with a microwave, two electric burners and a sink (no oven). The room was dirty and showed signs of wear and tear. The roller door to the patio could hardly be opened. We saw only a handful of penguins our entire stay. The website is misleading on many counts!

Room Tip: Don't believe the website!

“Waste of money”

My sister and our husbands stayed here on the 31 to the 2 of jan 2012. When we went to the the office on arriving we said have u any plans for new years eve and they said yes it is going to be a big night u better book for dinner so we did.
The moment we walk in the room it was way to small for 4 people and they called this a 2 bedroom family room. The room was really dirty and when we went to walk out the siding door of the so called lounge it just about pulled our arm out it it socket. So we rearranged the room so four of us could move around more easier and got dressed and went up for this so called new years eve night. Well it was so boring there we had more fun drinking in our room than in their resturant and the only thing i got out of the night was a bit of food posioning which i ended up in bed by 9.30.
The next day before i went out i went to the office and said i was not happy with how filthy our room was and i wanted it cleaned before i got back and also asked them to fix the sliding door and then i said thanks for the great new years eve u can tell ur chef all i got out of it was food posioning and he need to use fresh seafood and not keep old seafood and keep reheating it.
When we got back nothing had been done we even had to go out and get new towels for the room as they hadn't even refreshed those.
This place was a disgrace i would not call this a resort at all just cause it has a small pool in it doesn't make it a resort. Really a cabin in a caravan park would have been nicer than this place and cleaner and we sure would of had more room to more around in it.
So if u have booked this place find somewhere else because it is a real rip off for the money u spend as this is not a cheap place to stay it was a real waste of $600.00 and i got a discount through the site i booked on i really felt sorry for the people who payed full price.
I am not one to complain about a place where i say but i reall felt ripped off here and dont want anyone to waste good money like we did

Room Tip: find somewhere else

“Dont be mistaken by word "Resort"!”

Upon our arrival we were told that we had been upgraded to the honeymoon spa suite. I was disappointed and shocked with condition and cleanliness of our room, I don't think the bathroom floor had not been cleaned/mopped from previous occupiers, nowhere in the shower recess to place soap while in use, no shower screen or curtain (water goes everywhere), toilet needed to be flushed twice to stop it from running. Making a cup of coffee I discovered dried sediment with hair in the bottom of one of the cups, half opened/used packet of drinking chocolate. Had to wash up all the crockery and utensils before use, even the scotchbrite discloth was in a used state. Breadcrumbs lined the cupboard where toaster was kept. No storage/hanging space in bedrooms. I could have dismissed cobwebs surrounding the entry door/s and walls, the uncleaned rotunda/BBQ area where the tables, chairs floor were all dirty, however, I cannot dismiss the condition of the room allocated. In fact, I nicknamed the older staff/management Basil and Sibyl (Faulty Towers TV show) I will be contacting Tourism Tasmania with my concerns of this establishment, however, I will not let this experience spoil my return to Tasmania because it is such a lovely state to visit; all our other accommodation during the visit was fabulous.

Room Tip: Stay elsewhere

“Disappointing despite the location”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 15 January 2012

Lets start by the positive, it is a beautiful spot with direct access to the beach. The penguin tour included are great and the restaurant is very nice ( a bit over priced but nice nevertless). Breakfast is nice and plentyfull, perfectly adequate. We also had lovely staff so no complaints there. Now for the not so good. The resort is outdated, the rooms/ flat are motel room quality at best. The price is high for that quality or lack of it so this is what really lets the place down. The grounds are beautiful and the main homestead and common area though not to my liking style wise are nice. The pool table is great and the kids cinema evening a nice touch. All in all we had an ok stay but I would not recommend it. There is many other place in Tasmania that I am sure are better and deserve your hard earn cash

“Not 4 star!”

Great location, nice continental breakfast but very basic, sub-standard and uncomfortable accomodation. Apartment was unclean, dated and really not suitable for a family of four. There was no storage for clothing, not enough seating for the four of us and the kitchen facilities were extremely limited. The toilet flush was broken and staff were unable to repair it, but did not call in a plumber. The shower area was slippery and hazardess and I spent a great deal of time mopping the floors with towels.
We were told we had the 'honeymoon apartment' which has a spa with ocean views and luxury walk-in living area . In reality, this apartment had the most limited sea views of the whole complex and a dated looking spa stuck in the corner of the living area.
Servicing of the apartments was limited and eratic. Somedays beds were made, but mostly not and all that was tended to was the emptying of bins and replenishment of towels.
We had intended a relaxing and well earned 6 day break at this 'resort' , but all in all it was very disappointing and i think we felt relieved to leave. I believe the owners are keen to develop the conference side of their business, however i think they would be better placed investing in the upgrading of the apartments - especially if they want to be considered a 4 - 4.5 star resort. I feel we paid well over the odds for this accomodation and unfortunately we will not be returning or recommending Diamond Island Resort to our friends.
