Stayed only one night during a motorcycle trip thruout SE Queensland. Booked room with quoted wotif rate. Asking about their cancelation policy they told me that the room needs to be paid in full at the time of booking and they would give not _any_ refund if the room would be cancelled (even days in advance). That’s quite a 'draconian' cancelation policy and somewhat unusual IMHO.
Upon arrival, things got better, though. The staff at the front desk was very friendly and the resort offered secured underground parking for the bikes. The resort appears clean and maintained. The units are o.k., not overly spacious but nice layout and fully equipped with all kitchen appliances, washer/dryer, 2 TV's (one flat screen), DVD player etc. However the apartment shows it age and, although clean, there are numerous marks on the wall and the furniture from regular use. The mattresses where worn out and uncomfortable. The flyscreen at the patio door suffered from very bad corrosion and the door itself rumbled in the tracks. Some new furniture and a splash of paint would do this place good. One nice surprise where the bathrooms which where spotless clean and did not show any signs of mould or anything like that.
Ocean View is more miss then hit. All the lower floor units have no view whatsoever, except when you step out on the patio, where you can glimpse a small section of inland waterway (not the ocean). The situation might be better on floors higher up. In general only a very small section of the hotel faces the water with the majority of the rooms 'stacked' behind it.
There is a small pool right outside your room, which is both a blessing and a curse. You can easy just step outside and jump in the pool at any time from a ground floor unit. However at the same time you have the full noise right there. At times people jumping into the water even splashed water on our patio. As another reviewer mentioned after 5 pm there is no staff there to look after things and keep unruly guests in check.
The caloundra waterfront is in easy walking distance which offers plenty of restaurants and views.
In summary, the Watermark Resort is an O.K stay but nothing spectacular. The quality of the apartments is good, but ageing. Its good for families (if you don’t mind the noise) and if you don’t fancy spectacular ocean views.
