We just had a wonderful two nights 250kms north of Sydney in the village of Tea Gardens specificaly to do some kayaking away from our busy Sydney life. We found a quiet village atmosphere with a friendly Tourist Centre, cafes, restaurents, full hiring facilities for cruiser, houseboat and kayak hire, (find Larry) the ocean beach and bush walking is within easy driving distance too.
The Boathouse is across the road from the river which had easy access for our boats on an intermediate tide. One must understand the river tides in that, while the tide will be running out from the top of the river the next high tide will be running in at the mouth!
Also the banks are muddy near the village at low tide.
The Mangement (Stuart) went far and beyond his roll checking to see if we had arrived back from our planned day out on the river.
He realised we had been caught in an horrific thunderstorm with very heavy rain and he came to the waters edge to see if we were safely back. We really.
We usually let someone know where we are going if away from suburbia.
We willl go back to enjoy again the fresh juicy oysters on our patio overlooking the great lap pool to river beyond as the velvet nights falls.
Our apartment was spacious and well equipped for full self catering if one wished with a good sized patio for guests to join us.
A boaters haven or for 'taking a rest' we reccomend The Boathouse, put you car and boats in the locked area and forget the world outside to refresh youselves!! Edna and Jim.
