Sensational Smoky Cape lighthouse! We have just stayed in the lighthouse keeper's cottage B&B for the second time and loved it all over again. Since our first stay last year the cottage has been extensively renovated in keeping with its heritage. Both bedrooms now have ensuite bathrooms which is a great improvement. The beds are comfortable, everything is provided, including fluffy white bathrobes. There is tea, coffee and biscuits available at any time and you are free to use Wendy's kitchen if you want to. There is also a large fridge for guests' use.
The lighthouse is a pretty 10 minute drive from South West Rocks through Hat Head National Park. Rather than going back into town for dinner we would suggest stocking up on a bottle of wine, some beer and whatever you like to nibble on before you arrive - we chose fresh oysters from Wooli, smoked salmon, some cheeses, olives and sourdough bread. How good that tasted sitting out in the garden looking out towards Crescent Head, all observed by the local kangaroos lying just the other side of the fence.
Breakfast was served on the verandah - fresh fruit, yoghurt, variety of muesli or cereal, then a big fry up to order.
Our hosts, Pat and Wendy, were very courteous and friendly, immediately making us feel 'at home'. Nothing was too much trouble...even a a tour of the lighthouse.
We would thoroughly recommend staying at the keepers' cottage, it is an absolute delight.
