“A hidden Gem”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 17 December 2011

We are on a three month holiday in Australia, and have stayed in many different types of accomodation which we have researched and booked before setting off in October. It is always exciting when you first arrive as you have an expectation of what it will be like, but you can never be sure. When we headed off the main road and travelled for 6km through a National Park to what is a remote spot virtually on a cliff top in a place called South West Rocks on our way to Sydney we really did not know what we were letting ourselves in for. A Lighthousekeepers Cottage (could be anything) but it wasn't cheap at $250 AUD per night so we thought it can't be that bad surely?. We need not not have worried. The accomodation in a recently refurbished cottage including a four poster bed in the room we stayed in was wonderful. The views are amazing, and if you like wildlife it is there in abundance. Pat the proprietor looked after us personally, and his friendliness efficiency, and service was first class, and if you want to get married there which I believe would be magical, his wife Wendy can perform the ceremony. If you are in the area, and looking to stay somewhere memorable then do stay at the Smokey Cape Lighthouse, you won't be disappointed.

Room Tip: The room we stayed in was at the front, and had a four poster bed which was comfortable and romantic...

“Great spot to stay”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 12 July 2009

I have stayed here a few times and can highly recommend it.
The B&B is great with large beds and the rear room has its own bathroom
The keepers cottages are also good if you have a larger crowd, check out the refurbed lighthouse its great
Remember its quite isolated and lunch and dinner are not available at the B&B, however SW Rocks is about 10-15 minutes drive away

“WOW!!! What a view!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 17 April 2009

Absolutely lovely place to stay. We didn’t meet the hosts as they were away, but Christine stood in for them and did a wonderful job.
We had a four poster traditional room that ooozed elegance. in the morning, we were treated to a delicious hot cooked meal, or cereal, or fruit and all this was sat on the deck overlooking the beach,
There isn’t a great deal to do locally other than admire the views and go for a swim on the beach, which we did and had it all to ourselves. We went for dinner in town, thought we were in a restaurant, but we were in a hotel bar - nice enough though.

An amazing, unique place to stay if you fancy a change, yes it is a little pricey for one/ two nights, BUT you wont get more stunning views or better hospitality.
Highly recommended

“Beautiful location!”

After seeing this place reviewed on a travel TV program I was sold! The location is spectacular, with stunning views up and down the beautiful coast line. The lighthouse is located within a National Park as well, so is surrounded by bushland and down the (steep) path is a great little BBQ area. The rooms were basic but well kept and clean. Our hosts were friendly and welcoming and advised us on a great place to dine in the town (it was called Geppy's). There is a nice walk throught the bush down to the nearby beach which we had to ourselves! (As its an unpatrolled beach caution should be taken swimming there!) I loved staying at this place and would highly recommend it to anyone travelling to that part of NSW.

“Just Beautiful”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 28 August 2007

This gem is divided into three sections, a B&B- the "lighthouse keeper's cottage" and two self contained units the "assistant lighthouse keeper's" and "visiting officer's" cottage.
We stayed with family in one of the self contained cottages for the weekend for a wedding held at the lighthouse. It was just beautiful. We have stayed in South West Rocks plenty of times but this was the first time we'd been out to the lighthouse, and definitly won't be the last.
The first thing that hits you on arrival is the view- set high up on the point overlooking deserted beaches on either side, the spectacular white lighthouse stands out against the bright blue sky.
The cottages are heritage buildings, beautiful hardwood floors, original fireplaces etc but have all the mod cons- tv, dvd, microwave, dryer and bbq. Two bedrooms- one queen bed and three singles, separate lounge and dining but best was the large balcony surrounding the cottage overlooking the ocean.
The wedding we attended was held in the yard of the B&B with the spectacular back drop of the beach and ocean, the reception was then held at the cottages.
The next morning we woke to find kangaroos grazing in the yard of the cottage.
The owners of the B&B also run the cottages and were wonderful during our stay, friendly and helpful but also respected our privacy.
The cottages were perfect, they were an ideal place for a large group with children but would also be great for couples- very romantic.
We can't wait to go back.
