I nearly didn't book this place because of mixed reviews, then I looked at the most recent ones - new management is making a big difference. I arrived on a wet Sunday evening to a warm and professional greeting from the new owner. Hotel was quiet during off-season and he upgraded my room without me asking from single to double at no charge. Service generally was very good and quietly friendly.

Decor needs updating, but it was perfectly comfortable and very clean. Breakfast was more than adequate - hot food good and plenty available.

Not a luxurious place but it has an old fashioned charm and would highly recommend for a decent and good value place to stay in Katoomba.

we booked, then went onto trip advisor and thought opps. working in the hospitality industry i thought i would make up my own mind. we stayed monday 9th and tuesday 10th april. waited a while at reception. our booking was confirm and given direction to our room and the breakfast room for the next day. room 301 was a very clean room, bed firm and comfortable. the bathroom was very clean,fully tiled with bright white towels and plenty of hot water.
breakfast the next morning was very good with a selection of cereals,yoghurt, hot coffee or tea, chilled juice and plenty of hot food for all to enjoy.
great chinese down the road approx 150 metres offering dishes that were very authenic, easy walk to the township, great variety of restaurants and coffee house. the carrington cellars offered great buys in gourmet food, wines and beers.
we both enjoyed our stay at the palais royale and would recommend it

This place has fantastic kerb appeal and the common rooms are attractively furnished and comfortable. The hotel is now under new management and an improvement plan has been put in place to restore the hotel to its full potential, including simple things such as updating to digital, flat screen TVs. The reception staff were very helpful and friendly, providing us with the essential information for our long weekend in the Blue Mountains. We had a small problem which was quickly and satisfactorily resolved by the manager, who came across as very focussed on bringing the hotel back to standard.

This is a hotel with good location, looks excellent on the outside, is comfortable inside and no longer deserves the rating applied to it under the old owner.

The new owner is making a difference to his clients' experience. Keep up the good work.

We recently stayed at Palais Royale over the weekend 24th - 25th March 2012. Looking at trip advisor before hand was pleasantly surprised. Rooms clean very "art deco" had trouble with the shower head not adjusted tightly enough. Overall experience was very good pleasant front desk people who let us in our room early. Breakfast was good 4 choices is enough with toast cereal fruit juices is enough for most people. Would recommend it to other people.Tip ask when arriving is the restaurant open for dinner that night we had to find other restaurant.
