Kristy and I celebrated the 2009 New Year at Melba House. We loved it! The breakfast was extensive and delicious. The spa was great.

Melba House is a slightly uphill walk to the station but nothing too difficult. Katoomba has many pleasant new and second hand bookstores and good eating. Trevor and Marion will happily offer you recommendations about the food. There was one place we didn't like and they passed on our disappointment ( they didn't recommend it though!)

Note that it does get cool at night even in summer and most shops close at 5pm.

Trevor and Marion provided the most fantastic service, picking us up from the station and dropping us off again. Despite our need to leave early they got up early themselves and ensured we still received a fabulous breakfast. The delicious home made cookies were an especially good touch.

There's a very nice porch where you can sit and enjoy the peacefulness, the room we stayed in was traditionally and tastefully furnished.

All in all, just a great place to stay!

  • Liked — great room, spa, quality breakfast, personal service.
  • Disliked — nothing.

25 Nov 2008 | Trip type: Friends getaway

Melba House was a little bit of luxury for myself and my friend who are travelling for 2 years around the world. I booked it for my friend's birthday treat and we were not disappointed. The twin room was large with a real fire (although we did not need to light it as the central heating came on late afternoon and was lovely and warm!) The beds were so comfortable we had to struggle to get out of them in the morning. Although the prospect of a scrumptious breakfast was motivation enough. We can both heartily recommend the porridge with cream and sugar, the pancakes and the scrambled eggs and bacon! Mmmm! It was all freshly cooked and delicous. We liked having breakfast in our room which gave a very relaxed start to the day. Marion picked us up from the station and answered all the questions we had about the area even before we asked them! We knew exactly where to go for walks, eating out etc by the time we checked into our room! We enjoyed having a DVD library to choose from, the homemade biscuits and the complimentary decanter of port (which was topped up every day and for which we have now developed a taste!!) was a real treat when we came back in the evening, particularly as we had snow on the second day there! Trevor was also very friendly and informative and kindly gave us a lift back to the station when we left. We felt very welcome, pampered and thoroughly looked after and would not hesitate to recommend Melba House to our friends. If you are looking for a lovely luxury break in the Blue Mountains that is excellent value for money then look no further - stay at Melba House - you will not regret it!

  • Liked — The breakfasts, the homecooked biscuits and the port!
  • Disliked — Having to get out of the comfy beds and only being able to afford 3 nights there!

My husband and I spent a wonderful 3 days at Melba house in October while the Leura Gardens Festival was on. We don't usually stay at B & B's so I selected Melba House very carefully by checking their website and reviews.

We stayed in a room with a spa and a fireplace and it was perfectly lovely. The room was large, as was the bathroom. We loved having breakfast in our room and the blueberry pancakes were divine! The bowl of fresh fruit in the room and delicous afternoon tea on arrival were greatly appreciated.

Melba House is very conveniently located a few minutes walk from town which was great for shopping and eating locally. We so enjoyed our dinner at the nearby Common Ground Cafe that we ate there on two nights. It has a great atmosphere and the prices are reasonable.

Marion and Trevor were gracious hosts who provided us with lots of information and suggestions and made sure that we had everything we needed for an enjoyable stay.

My husband and I spent one fantastic night at Melba House during our visit to Australia. Trevor and Marion were very accomodating, offering to fetch and drop us at the train station, giving us advice about the best places to visit during our short stay as well as advice about where to have dinner. The room was beautifully decorated and the bed extremely comfortable(We missed our early morning walk just to sleep in!). The breakfast was one of the highlights of the stay, with a choice of everything you could think of for breakfast as well as chocolate milkshakes! Trevor and Marion went out of their way to make us feel comfortable and spoilt. We will definitely return!

I can't believe that I didn't write a review of this lovely place at the time, but have decided to rectify this now. Obviously the full details are a little hazy due to the passage of time, but we had a wonderful stay at this property and would certainly stay again.

The bits that really stick in my mind even 3 years later, and the reasons why we will be back are:

- very friendly hosts, Trevor and Marion gave us a really warm welcome (and lovely treats) on arrival and helped us get to know a bit about the area before we started our explorations

- great breakfasts, and I loved the fact that it was served in the room because sometimes you just want to be with your partner in the morning and not rush to get ready to eat!

- long lazy afternoons after a hectic days' sightseeing, sitting on the verandah and enjoying the peace.

Thanks to Trevor and Marion for their hospitality.
