“Dirty”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 31 January 2011

Very dissappointed with this place. Looked great on the website, but was very outdated and dirty. We had a two bedroom apartment on the top floor. Fantastic views, we had a spa pool on our balcony but did not use it as it had a layer of oily film sitting on the water. My 8 year old daughter did not want to sit on the lounge furniture as it looked dirty. Kitchen and bathrooms were old and grimy. The childrens bathroom had a broken toilet seat - yuk! Worst of all - the bedspreads were filthy - why cant these be washed after each bookijng - there is no point putting clean sheets on the bed only to find when you roll down the cover there are stains!!! Overpriced too :(

Thanks for your comments. The ownership of the Mediterranean Resort has just changed hands in November 2010 and was under previous management for 6 years. Like you, as new managers we have identified an urgent need for upgrading and introducing new systems and procedures.
Work is now under way and all apartments are being upgraded. We will be replacing all bedding, replacing fabric lounges with leather lounge suites, replacing TV’s with new digital LCD screens. Some apartments are already completed and we are not using the apartments with old furniture until they are fixed.
We do change the Jacuzzi water and clean the filter between every guest stay but we are looking to tighten procedures here.
Please accept the apology of our new Management Team and please come to visit us again in the future. You will be surprised at the changes.

“Not as good as the brochure”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 10 June 2010

A bit of a hit & miss-
Hit - the spa balcony, view & apartment size is a winner & is worth calling a 4 star resort (we were in room 13). Also the view from the horizon pool is brilliant!!!
Miss - the customer service from the managers was non existent, the hill to the hotel & to get to your room is not for the elderly or unfit (as it is extremely steep), we had no hot water for nearly a full day, the curtains in the main bedroom are so thin you'll be up at sunrise, we went to make tea & the milk portions were out of date by weeks and they had the nerve 2 ask us to take our rubbish with us at the end of our stay! Also if you run out of toilet paper or milk you buy your own they will not replace. Lucky we were only there for two nights. You would not expect this from a "4 * resort".

Not worth $210 a night

Most of what you experienced is inexcusable and is being rectified. We will not tolerate poor maintenance or surely customer service. The local taxis will bring you back from the village to your apartment front door for only $5 so the hill is not a problem for most but does give us our wonderful views.

“quite honestly -didn't like the resort or airlie beach”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 29 March 2010

This accommodation had good and bad points. The good points included the large apartments offered for the price and the sea views although the sea was very far away. If the balcony was that good i would have sat out on it but i didnt. The balcony was sitting just above the car park and felt very overlooked, having a balcony is not always a guarantee that it is a nice one. The amenities were good inside the apartment with dvd player and full kitchen and laundry but a lot of australian accommodation has this? It is not unusual? The car parking is appauling with a steep driveway up to it. Coming down the driveway is so steep the front of your car nearly hits the ground. Drive very slowly. The steep climb up the road is quite tough but short so it is tolerable though older/unwell people may have difficulty. The owner was the biggest disappointment, When i turned to my partner to discuss what phone number to put down on his check in form he said 'it's not a test' quite rudely. Rather a case of being in tourism for the money rather than being a 'people person'. Not the best welcome in world. Its amazing how initial impressions matter isn't it.

I'm afraid i also didnt like Airlie Beach in general. It was my least favourite place in australia. It was boring. The souvenier shops closed at like 4 or 5 (they seemed to make it up day to day). They was a couple of scruffy bars and one or two acceptable places to eat such as cactus jacks. Its all about cruises. Airlie beach itself is kind of a blink and you miss it place. Very little appeal and certainly no wow factor. Cairns was much more interesting and surrounding scenery much better.

“Beautiful view”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 13 June 2009

Loved this place!Great to stay with a family.Stayed in a 3 bedroom apartment.Only fault I have is the futon bed in the main bedroom was broken and they had put a block of wood under the bed to support it!When I mentioned this to management upon checking out she said they couldn't get the part that needed replacing.
Not good enough sorry, buy a new bed!
This was not cheap accommodation and they would have got a perfect review otherwise.
All in all it is really nice accommodation, clean tidy and roomy!

“Excellent! one of the nicest places we've stayed, and we've been to lots!”

Beautiful place to stay, amazing view (check photos). Pools are really nice especially when the cockatoos fly around later in the day.
Staff were all really friendly and helpful, they will recommend trips for you based on what people have said about them or if they've done them, picked us an amazing trip to the reef and onto daydream island, which was brilliant. The boat only takes a small number of people so you can enjoy it better and you're not packed like sardines on the boat, like other ones are! Make sure u wear the stinger suit tho!
Apartment is very big, especially if there's just two of you! and is very clean. You get a big garage so if you hire a car you can put it in which is nice.
If you hire a car, drive to Bowen, it's where Australia was filmed, loads of the set are still there, it's cool.
Only small problem is the hill is incredibly steep, fine for us but if your older and / or have bad legs, hire a car or find somewhere else as it's honestly pretty steep especially in the heat!
Also you have to be quiet as people live permanently in the apartments around it
We will definitely be going back though!
