This is a review for the bar at Beaches and not the hostel as I stayed elsewhere.

The bar looks onto the main street in Airlie. It's big and loud with plenty of seating in a few different areas. They offer drinks promotions and a long list of menu items to suit all tastes.

Sadly what I ordered didn't suit my taste. I opted for the steak burger with chips for AUD$12.90 and was very disappointed with the quality.

The food took ages to arrive, at least 30 minutes from ordering. When it did arrive my fries were overcooked and a bit cold. I should have really complained at the tijme, but I didn't fancy waiting another 30 minutes to get replacement food.

The burger wasn't great either. The bap had been a frozen one which I guess had been defrosted in the microwave. The meat was ok, but cold, and the other slad and dressing were not the most delicious I had encountered to date.

Overall the food here wasn't worth the money or the wait.

We only stayed here for one night. We did not see the communial area or kitchen. The staff on reception were not overly helpful or friendly but not rude either. We shared a 8 bed mixed dorm with ensuite shower and toilet. It also had a fridge (which smelt) and a sink. The room was clean and bathroom were clean but very dated. The room was very spacious in comparison to other hostel and we had a good size balcony overlooking a very small pool and you could see the sea!

Firstly the receptionist was the rudest person I have ever met!!! She threw the key at me and didnt even tell ms where my room was!

Secondly everyone was on drugs! A guy came back and was sick all over the bathroom and then all over his bed. Reception is closed so we can't do anything and I want to check out but I can't because the reception is closed.

Worst experience of my life.

We got off to a bad start. We booked a double private room but were told this was double booked, as the email from agoda didn't come through until late the night before. I suspect the email didn't take over 24 hours to get through and rather someone made a boo boo, but it doesn't really mater (well unless you like to be told the truth!)

We were given an 8 dorm bed to ourselves, we thought this would be a suitable resolution of the fore mentioned mistake, but it wasn't really as the dorm room was of a very poor standard. The room smelt a bit off, the majority of lights didn't work and a window didn't lock so clear security issues!

There was also a lot of noise from bar downstairs, and later on from the patrons of the bar downstairs outside our room.

We only stayed one night and booked the YHA when we returned from our sailing trip.
