“Wow - Emma Gorge”

We spent 2 nights here in a quad Tent - it was quite roomy and the ensuite was good.....
The Safari Tents are set amongst trees, creek and bushland settings - very attractive. The restaurant and bar area are very well appointed. We had a discount buffet the first night which was great , but had to have al a carte the next (no choice) From reading the reviews previously I think the Buffet (at a discount) should be offered on a regular basis.. The tour groups would be disappointed to read some of the comments, and I feel privilaged to have been able to stay at Emma Gorge, as well as some other Safari Tented accommodation.
These places have been built by the tour groups and allow Self Drivers to also stay. We would have been poor for choice if they were not available to us.... I agree that the staff should take note of comments eg. Tour groups together - and self drive customers given the tents with parking. Also it would be nice to have coffee & tea making and if poss a fridge on request.....But hey! The walk to Emma Gorge (even though a little tough) is worth a little inconvenience here and there. And Yes El Questro down the road has some great things to do and see - in all a great visit....

“A unique oasis”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 21 September 2011

The setting and context of Emma Gorge resort need to be taken into consideration when reviewing it. It is set at the base of deep red cliffs and provides an oasis of green and tranquility in the surrounding plains of brown and russet. The permanent safari-style tents are quite comfortable and a clever design, with a queen-sized bed and two singles, but no storage/hanging areas. It did get a little crowded and messy when all four of us were in there. The bathrooms were fine, although people prone to noisy ablutions could be heard clearly from adjoining tents. The highlight of this resort is the setting of the communal dining, bar and pool areas. There is an a la carte restaurant with variable food and service, a buffet area with quite average food and a relaxed bar with a plantation-style feel. The gardens are very green and lush and well-maintained and the pool has several wooden recliners providing a relaxing area after the trip up Emma Gorge. Pool towels are provided. It is more the setting and atmosphere at this resort which make it feel unique and it has the added benefit of being at the mouth of Emma Gorge, which is a truly spectacular place. The swim at the end of the 40 minute walk is amazing and make sure that you swim under the rocky ledge to the right of the waterhole and experience the warm springs coming from the rock face - a nice contrast to the freezing water under the waterfall.

“Camping in Comfort !”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 19 September 2011

We spent one night at Emma Gorge Resort at the end of our Gibb River Road trip. The tents were really well designed and it comfortably slept 4 of us. It was lovely to wake up to the sound of the birds and wildlife. The restaurant was great and of course the Emma Gorge walk was just amazing to see. We really enjoyed our time at Emma Gorge and would definitely stay there again !

Room Tip: Ask for tent that backs onto the creek for lovely sounds in the early morning.

“relaxing outback accommodation”

We spent 2 nights here with a tour group and found it to be quite an oasis in a very dry part of the Kimberley. The food was excellent and the open reception area was a very restful place for a cold drink and a chat at the end of the day. My minor quibble was with the background music, which I found intrusive when surrounded by the beautiful sounds of the birds. Also, our tented cabins were quite a hike from the dining/reception area so we had plenty of exercise before we even started exploring the gorges etc.

“Nice but could do better”

I stayed with my parents whilst doing a self drive tour along the Gibb River Road. The tents were very well designed and we all found them to be comfortable with good facilities that were nice and clean. The unfortunate part of our stay was that we definitely felt like second class citizens when the bus tour groups were staying. This was exampled when ordering a drink from the bar, despite it being my turn the bar staff repeatedly turned to people with tour group name badges which was frustrating, they also allow the tour groups to sprawl all over the lounge area leaving the self drive travellers nowhere to go until they move to the buffet. We also feel that the hotel management have to do something about the tour group leaders, they make announcements / briefings to their people which we found un-necessarily disruptive. One final gripe that we had was that the breakfast buffet was supposed to be available until 9am, when we turned up at 08:15 there really wasn't much left as the tour groups had been through at about 7am. I really feel that at a facility as nice as this they really need to make sure that the self drive travellers are made to feel as welcome as the tour buses. My final disappointment was that in the shop the clothing merchandise was pretty much all small size, I would have definitely bought 3-4 shirts had the correct size been available. I understand that the tour buses are very important for business but surely the self drive tourists are icing on the cake and I think something needs to be done to make them feel as welcome. We ate at the restaurant as another self drive couple said the buffet was limited and very over priced, this was great advice as the food was very tasty (perhaps marginally expensive though). Good laundry facilities with plenty of line space.

Greetings from El Questro Wilderness Park and thank you for highlighting the good and the not so good. Feedback is what we like, especially when we don't meet expectations and on this occasion we were found wanting and please accept our sincere apologies.

With regards to the bar situation, there should not have been any preferential treatment being a tour bus guest, as we treat all our guests as equals and naturally we are very disappointed that it came across that our Bar Team created that impression. We have in the meantime counselled our Bar Team to be aware of this situation to ensure that it does not occur again.

Buffet Breakfast is advertised between 6.30 am to 8.30 am and we would have been more than happy to cook a special breakfast if there was not much left to satisfy your needs, especially since you had arrived towards the end of the buffet timing. Regarding the retail shop not having your correct sizes it was unfortunate as we carry small stock due to space restrictions. We are addressing the space issue in our future redevelopment plans.

Needless to say we appreciated your feed back on Trip Advisor and thank you for your our other positive comments and be assured that we have addressed your other concerns and once again we apologise sincerely for not meeting your expectations and trust that you'll comeback one day soon and you'll let us know so that we can make your next visit a little more special.
