“Beach and Golf Paradise”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 9 February 2012

If you choose not to go in school holidays, this resort offers so much. I like it's informality, the accommodation is a bit tired but the magnificent golf course and pro shop make up for it and the beach is quiet and clean and we just love it. It's like an old friend. Maybe that's not what people look for but if you want to relax you may discover an old friend is more relaxing and fun to be with than a new one.
We always include this hotel somewhere in our plans. Try it!

Room Tip: We do like the Golf Villas but most rooms are good.

“Sure it is in need of a lift, but the staff culture need a bigger lift”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 8 February 2012

I was particuarly excited to be returning to the Hyatt regency Coolum with friends and didn't begrug the high price tag, due to my pleasant last stay (3-4 years ago), but I was very disappointed. I have read many reviews on the poor state of repair and how 'tired' the resort is - with management responding that upgrades are imminent. What is not recognised or acknowledged is how 'dis-interested and disengaged the front of house staff are.
I always look to a positive experience on holidays and make concessions, but every interaction (except one in the restaurant with a waiter noted for his good service in other reviews), was well below par. I can only assume the resort has a toxic culture with many unhappy staff.
I feel cheated by what I paid for the holiday and wish I had spent my entire trip at the Sofitel in Brisbane (rather than splitting my time), who has wonderful staff that want to be there!
I made comment on more than one ocasion that I felt I was 'putting them out' and it did not resonate with the staff. Sure you can do up the resort (and return the grounds/ rooms to their former glory), but the culture may take a little more work, needing to start with an acknowledgment there is an issue and pricing accordingly!!

“Tired and unexceptional”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 2 February 2012

This was a really disappointing experience...the room was shabby, the internet didn't work and I had to waste quite a lot of time speaking with an o/s technician until it finally was accepted by the hotel that the problem was internal - sure enough an engineer found a problem with the connection right down the line of rooms, but what a frustrating way to begin our stay. Then our plans to eat at either of the two restaurants were frustrated as well - one was fully booked, the other was closed to the public. We had an overpriced and underwhelming meal at one of the lesser eateries. This might be a reasonable family destination, but for a couple it really didn't do it for us - this was a pity, as I'd expected much better things of Hyatt.

Thank you for your comments on your recent stay with us.

Our apology for the frustration you experienced with internet usage and with two of our restaurants being fully booked on the night of your stay.

With regard to the rooms, we are embarking on a program of refurbishment which I feel confident will restore them to a more satisfactory level of comfort.

Thank you for your feedback.

“great stay”

My family and I are at Hyatt just after new year. Although it is busy, i would say that the resort coped pretty well.

This resort is good for families with little kids and boy!! there are heaps of them.

If you are looking for quiet time this is not the place for you, although they have one adult pool at the sauna. But once you get out, be prepared to face the kids riding their bikes.

we are not kids hater we had our share .

The tennis courts are great (there are 8 courts i think) and the staff will go out of their way to make you happy.

Golf is amazing if you like golf.

Private Hyatt Beach:
Do not go to the beach. it is not for kids. It has sort of like a gutter at the start when you get in so its kind of deep, very deep for kids then shallow in the middle. I will not take little kids there. Be careful.

“We keep coming back”

My family & I are lucky enough to have stayed at the Hyatt Coolum many times and we are always greeted with 5 star smiles & service. I am dismayed at any 1 star reviews as I've personally never experienced a bad stay.

Yes, some of the rooms need upgrading, but there's over 300 rooms, so they can't all be done at once!

Yes, the food is over priced and sometimes disappointing and I do get annoyed at the $5 coffee, but I just think of all the free luxuries on offer (location, landscaping, pools, atmosphere, safe haven for kids, wildlife, the amazing reception area). I can't think of many hotels & resorts that offer decent room service, the food is always soggy!

(It would be great if the Hyatt Coolum food & beverage manager could address this and rethink the menus & value on offer.)

We keep coming back for many reasons, and happy to turn a blind eye to the occasional disappointment as the pros always outweigh the cons.

Thank you for your continued support of the resort. Your positive comments are appreciated, and we are pleased to learn that you have never experienced a bad stay with us!

Room service at the resort does provide a challenge due to the tyranny of distance, however we endeavour to deliver food items efficiently and in appetizing condition.

Thank you again for taking the time to provide your feedback, and we look forward to welcoming you and your family back to the resort.
