I was particuarly excited to be returning to the Hyatt regency Coolum with friends and didn't begrug the high price tag, due to my pleasant last stay (3-4 years ago), but I was very disappointed. I have read many reviews on the poor state of repair and how 'tired' the resort is - with management responding that upgrades are imminent. What is not recognised or acknowledged is how 'dis-interested and disengaged the front of house staff are.
I always look to a positive experience on holidays and make concessions, but every interaction (except one in the restaurant with a waiter noted for his good service in other reviews), was well below par. I can only assume the resort has a toxic culture with many unhappy staff.
I feel cheated by what I paid for the holiday and wish I had spent my entire trip at the Sofitel in Brisbane (rather than splitting my time), who has wonderful staff that want to be there!
I made comment on more than one ocasion that I felt I was 'putting them out' and it did not resonate with the staff. Sure you can do up the resort (and return the grounds/ rooms to their former glory), but the culture may take a little more work, needing to start with an acknowledgment there is an issue and pricing accordingly!!
