Excellent stay at Ryley Motor Inn; last minute booking of a 'single' room for $79. Room was basic but clean and very comfortable; on the small side, but plenty big enough for 1 or 2 with a comfy double bed, small wardrobe, chair and bench with 2 stools. Pleasantly surprised by room facilities which included a litle bench area which offered bar fridge, microwave, toaster, kettle, cutlery and crockery! Also TV and air con and free wireless internet use.
Bathroom surprisingly large and all absolutely spotless. Cheerful and welcoming hosts were very accommodating and allowed me to stay 2 hours past the checkout time to suit my requirements.
On the main road so not particularly quiet, but I slept fine in my room :-)

Wangaratta is a city of around 25000 people just of the Hume freeway about 3 hours from Melbourne.
The Paragon Ryley Motor Innl is a few hundred metres south of the centre of the city, on the road to Melbourne.
It is classified as 3 ½ star but I would say is as good as some 4 star country motels that I have used in Australia.
The room I had was conventional, fairly large, with a Queen Bed, a Sofa which converts to a double bed, TV (with Cable TV), Bar Fridge and Reverse Cycle Air-conditioning. There was also a coffee table, a reasonable size wardrobe and plenty of drawer space. Ample spare blankets and pillows were provided.
Tea and coffee making facilities and a toaster are also provided. A microwave is available on request.
The bathroom was a reasonable size with a shower, toilet and wash basin. Bath, hand and face towels were provided. Other amenities included small bars of soap, shampoo, shower cap, shoe cleaner and cotton buds.
The rooms had recently been renovated.
All rooms face a nice courtyard area with tables/chairs , a Bar B Q and a pool for guests.
Free wireless internet is available as are DVDs for use in the room.
There is no restaurant but there are charge back facilities from several restaurants in the town including and Indian next door and another restaurant straight over the road. There many other restaurants in the town. There is a supermarket 200 – 300 metres down the road.
I found the motel to be very comfortable and the owners to be very helpful.
I would recommend it for an overnight stay or for a few days if you are looking for somewhere to stop while visiting the area of on the way from Melbourne to Sydney or vice versa.
