It is a fairly long and bumpy ride from Cuiaba airport by 4x4 (apparently in the flood season the last part of the transfer is by river), we only stayed 2 nights and I'd recommend a longer stay to make the travel more worthwhile. Although the driver did stop whenever he spotted an interesting animal or bird. The accommodation is arranged in attractive small blocks with paved paths between them. The rooms are comfortable and well-furnished with comfortable bed, TV and nice bathroom; each room has a terrace and hammock. The rooms do have air-con but we found our room very hot at night even with the air-con on (stay was in December so hot/rainy season). The small pool is nicely located with a view down to the river and close to a mango tree which was attracting flocks of parakeets and other fruit-eating birds during our stay. The dining room is spacious and screened from insects. The meals were freshly cooked and good quality. They made an effort to cater for the vegetarian in our party (let them know in advance). There is WiFi access available free in the Reception and library area. Overall the ambiance is very relaxing and pleasant and the service from the staff is friendly and welcoming.
The wildlife around the gardens is abundant - you almost don't need to go on trips! Lots of birds e.g. troupial, burrowing owl, parakeets, toucans, jabiru stork, great potoo and animals e.g. capybara, iguana, cayman in the grounds.
The lodge organised a knowledgeable guide who spoke good English (Flavio) and arranges various trips e.g. walking, river boat, kayaking, night drives, horse riding. We chose not to ride the horses as some of them did not look in good condition; thin and with some injuries. The boat trip on the river was fabulous, the river is winding and well vegetated and very pretty as well as teeming with bird life.
