“Great service and guiding”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 2 October 2011

The owner of this hotel, Stipe, is truly a great host. If you choose to stay here you should definitely go for an excursion of two with Stipe as you guide. We did the Mostar tour and the wine tasting tour and we highly recommend them both. You get to learn about Coatian culture, politics, history, environment and more in an entertaining way.

The hotel is clean and has a great location right on the beach, but don't expect luxury. It's the service that makes this hotel a four star accommodation.

Dear Guest,

Thank you for you comment and your recommendations. To be a good host is not only our job but also our love and duty to show some of our hidden corners this neighborhood has to offer. We never offer the standard commercial excursion because we know that most of our guest profile who are coming to our hotel doesn’t want the „mass tourism concept“. Instead we do more authentic excursions where you will get to know „The Mediteraninan as it was before“ but also the people living that life.

I also feel obliged to comment the second part of your text because I would not like our future guests to generalize our hotel by a few comments.
Our goal is not to be a luxury hotel, which sometimes guest expects when they see the awards we have won – they are for the best family runned hotel in Croatia 2009 and best Boutique Hotel 2008 not for the most luxurious hotel in Croatia.
One thing is sure, both Boutique and especially Family runned hotels around the world can often have a better service level then many 5 star hotels. We know the name, wishes, habits, and needs of our guest, can act faster and often surprise our returning guest with small details we know they like. When it comes to facilities we have more than usually many bigger hotels both 4 and 5 star – so we sometimes say we are a big hotel in a package of a small – from swimmingpool, spacenter, a famous a la carte restaurant at the beach, a hotel boat and quite many nice and cozy chill and public areas. Paying no extra amount for sun chairs, towels, luggage carriage, wireless Internet etc is especially something you don’t get everywhere were some hotels charge you for the air your breeding trying to make extra profit on small things.
In a family hotel we want you to become a part of the family not only a number!

The last part regarding the rooms is the most important one for future guests but also for old who didn’t live up to their expectations.
We have 3 room types regarding size:
13 suites with 26-32m2
8 standard double rooms with c.a 18-20m2
and 4 Budget rooms with c.a 16m2

3 types regarding views and balcony
1. Balcony side sea view - mostly our suites
2. Smaller Balcony – no sea view
3. No balcony

Conclusion: Dont expect a suite if you have booked a double room, don’t expect a Balcony if you haven’t booked balcony, don’t expect luxury if you booked the lowest category in the hotel. A budget room is there for a purpose – you can enjoy the Marco Polo experience, service and our great position directly at the beach for much less money.
Working in tourism we sometimes see all different tricks used by guests who would like to upgrade from a smaller category to a higher. Sometimes that could be because in the moment they booked e.x no suites where available, or even worse they where stingy at the moment they booked and then feel sorry afterwards and think of anything to get the room with the view – mostly to late since we are mostly fully booked.
We like all guests and if we have a room free to upgrade its yours. Sometimes some guests can simply have more luck then other. Very often guests who book the Budget room get an upgrade for free – which was the case of our writer of this comment. You still stayed in a budget room but got a balcony for free for 7 days!!. Our budget rooms have the standard of a 3 star hotel while the suites have the standards of a 4-5 star.
With other words – our friendliness, location, service, concept, public facilities and excursions is the same for all guests but the little extra luxury and/or standard rooms is your own choice.
Anyhow, many guests who book a room without view very quickly understand that it doesn’t matter since the hotel lies immediately at the beach and we have many terraces and public areas overlooking the sea.

Sincerely Yours,
Hotel Director

“Very friendly family owned hotel”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 19 September 2011

We spent there two fantastic weeks in September 2011. Both hotel staff and owner were very friendly. Especially the team at the reception did a great job and we received a very warm welcome. The sea front suite that we booked was really spacious, clean and nice. Breakfast buffet offered a large variety of fresh and high quality products. Dining at the hotel restaurant was also a good experience. We also spent an unforgottable day aboard the hotel own boat; this trip was really worth the money.
Overall we can certainly recommend this hotel and plan to return whenever around.

“A great place to stay”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 13 September 2011

We booked our holiday in June this year and had a great stay. The location is peaceful and the hotel really does feel like a big family home. We also felt there was a really big effort being made to make our holiday one to remember - and it was. We have told all our friends "if you're looking for a great place to stay for a relaxed, quiet holiday then look no further than Boutique Hotel Marco Polo in Gradac". We'd never been to Croatia before but because of the fantastic hospitality I am 100% sure when return we'll be staying here. We were also the only English people staying at hotel - what a fantastic bonus!! :) When we returned home tanned and relaxed (to another rubbish summer at home, of course) we really did feel like we'd recharged the batteries. Thanks to everyone at the hotel - and I can only apologise for taking a few months to getting round to writing this review. Hope to see you again one day. Cheers!

Room Tip: ask for a sea view.

Amazing location and the best restaurant in town is offered by this very nice little hotel. The staff and owner is what really makes this hotel stand out. The dinners offered are great!
