LOCATION: Katherine River Lodge was only a couple of minute drive from the Stuart Highway. There was free car park for guests in front of the room. It was about a fifteen minute walk to the main street, Katherine Terrace/Stuart Highway, where you could find a few dining options such as the decent New Shanghai Restaurant & Take Away. It was best to avoid walking from the motel to the main street in the evening as we did. It could be a bit adventurous. When we were there a few drunkards occupied every street corners along the main street and a fight was broken out. So drive if you can.
HOTEL: The hosts were friendly and helpful. The room was very quiet close to the Katherine River, albeit old and extremely dusty. Low shower pressure, hard bed and small pillows. Expect lots of ants and spiders in the room.
CONCLUSION: This motel was very dirty and dusty. It needed a renovation and a good cleaning. The hosts were nice people, but not very apt to run a motel. Not recommended.

Clean, efficient, value for money. Restaurant service was a bit slow, food good.

We stayed here for one night for a stopover as we were doing the Katherine Gorge Dawn cruise the next morning.
The motel has a few shortcomings but is OK for an overnight stop. The rooms are quite old and the shower was pretty basic and the fan and air conditioning were a bit dodgy. There is a nice shady pool area which was just outside our room but this got a bit noisy in the late afternoon when some local children helped themselves to a swim.
On the postive side the owners are friendly and it is one of the cheapest options in a town where motel rooms are quite expensive. Also it is an ideal spot to stay if you are visiting the Katherine Gorge and particularly the dawn cruise as it is actually located on the road that leads to the gorge - we had to be up early for the 7.00am cruise and it only took us 20 minutes to drive there. If you are only in town for a night or two it is an OK place to stay.

Do yourself a favour and spend a bit more and stay elsewhere. The rooms were old, small, not the cleanest, the beds uncomfortable. If you are over 5'10, you would bang your head on the TV sticking out from the wall. The restaurant was not too bad, but better food can be found in town.This is a budget stay only.
