“I got the warm and fuzzys!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 31 January 2012

After arriving at Warwick house we were greeted by the hosts Nick and Jenny who were very warm and welcoming. There was also the added bonus of their delightful dog Vickey who put a smile on my face after a months travelling and no animal love. We were then shown to a lovely room on the ground floor. This room was clean and spacious and i very much enjoyed the added extras! We did not opt to get breakfast in the morning as we were in a hurry however we did hear that Jenny makes one heck of a cook up! Instead we made our own breakfast in the fully functional kitchenette and enjoyed it in the early morning sun streaming into the bay view window. I got the warm and fuzzy's after seeing such great New Zealand hospitality and was excited to carry on my trip after receiving great advise from the hosts. I would recommend this for anyone travelling to Nelson! What an experience!

Thank you for your kind feedback.
It has been a very busy season here for us and we do greatly
appreciate when guests take the time to post such positive feedback.
Vicky our Black Labrador has been in 'high demand' again by guests for regular dog walks.
She enjoys all the nice trails that start right by the house.
This is our 7th season now and sharing information with guests on the many activties in and around Nelson is one of the highlights of our being in this business.

“Avoid this B&B - the room smelled awful!”

We arrived early afternoon, only to find out we coldn't check in until 4PM. We came back, and were shown to our 'suite'. It was terrible.
The smell of rising damp just about knocked you off your feet, and the 'full kitchenette' was a fridge, toaster and kettle in the toilet / bathroom.
When I explained that I couldn't stay in that room because of the smell, I was finally relocated (after waiting another half hour) to an acceptable room - but no coffee, no offer of breakfast, no hospitality. The 'guest lounge' was full of rubbish, and the ballroom had no-where to sit. Certainly not the 'elegant accommodation' which was promised on the website.
We could not get out of there fast enough.
Cannot recommend it - the worst place I have stayed in a long time.

Room Tip: Best to choose one in a different hotel!

We are sorry to hear that you did not enjoy your stay - Your booking was for a standard room and not one of our 4 large suites. This room was completed only 12 months ago with modern moisture proof flooring materials. Since then there have never been any complaints of smells - The room has opening windows on 3 sides that are opened during daily cleaning by our staff.
Warwick House has been 4 1/2 star Qualmark rated for 6 years now and has frequently received 100% marks for cleaning procedures. Despite our high season occupancy an upgraded was provided. Breakfast trays or full cooked breakfasts are always available on request. This booking was for standard room without breakfast.
Both the Ballroom and guest library areas as well as the upper deck and verandah are available to all guests and all of these offer significant seating choices.
All rooms come with complimentary coffee and tea facilities as well as free wireless internet.
Check In time is from 4pm onwards and is stated on all booking confirmations. an 0800 freecall phone is provided for any guests who wish to advise us of an earlier check in time.

“Lovely historic Hotel”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 26 October 2011

We stayed at Warwick House for 4 nights and really enjoyed our stay. The hotel was clean and tidy and the hosts Nick & Jenny were friendly and available but not "in your face". The Hotel is an easy walk into the town centre which was a drawcard in booking it and it was a bonus to be able to stay in such a beautifully restored building and part of Nelson's history

Many thanks for the nice comments. It was a pleasure having you both here. Restoring this very large and early Victorian property (1854) was a huge job, but we are now able to share it with travelers from so many different parts of the world.
We are very lucky to live in such a beautiful part of New Zealand and take great pleasure in sharing it with you. Visitors to the Nelson region have been growing a lot and the great restaurants, cafes, boutique breweries and wineries have something interesting for everyone.
The direct boat service from Nelson city to Abel Tasman national park is another great reason to stay directly in Nelson city during your visit to the region.

“An unforgettable experience”

Warwick House is exquisite in design and nature. It is elegant and absolutely gorgeous. It is abounding in history and grace. The history of the House is as magnificent as its structure and when we arrived, we didn’t want to leave. Warwick House really is a must stay in Nelson.

My husband and I stayed at Warwick House for 2 nights of our 16 night stay in NZ. We were on our honeymoon and this most beautiful B&B was indeed the most impressive and elegant and absolutely gorgeous stay that we had in the whole of the South Island, in fact, the whole of NZ. The pictures on the internet sold us, as it was both intriguing and grand and appealed very much to our taste. Being newlyweds and young, we definitely had a budget for our honeymoon. We saw Warwick House on the internet and thought it’s a little more expensive than every other place we have booked but it’s our honeymoon, we deserve 2 nights somewhere special. And somewhere special we indeed got with Warwick House. Absolutely divine and the price you pay for it, for a little bit of history and a whole bit of ‘wow’ is definitely worth every cent you pay. And honestly, with the size of the room, the personalised and friendly service Nick showed us, the historical and magnificent building that it is, the price you pay is very very reasonable. In fact, we thought Nick and his wife could charge a whole lot more than what they do and we wondered why not? We figured it out...it’s almost as though Nick and his wife are not in it for the money, they are in it for the sheer joy and pleasure of sharing this most beautiful historic building with the world. That is their reward almost. How amazing is that. We were so impressed with the value for money that we got here.

The breakfast provided was lovely (home cooked muesli) and the cookies and milk upon arrival made the stay even sweeter. Nick talked us into experiencing the Abel Tasman (only because we wanted to stay at Warwick House and not leave as it was so beautiful to the eye and we were staying literally in a castle! something we may never again experience) and thank you Nick that you did so, because this was one of the highlights of our honeymoon, just when we thought Nelson couldn’t get any better (after Warwick House), just a short drive away we entered the Abel Tasman, a truly beautiful picture and experience that we will never forget. Nick was extremely helpful and pointed us in all the right directions for meals, shopping and admiring the great region in which Nelson lay.

Thank you to Nick and his wife for making this stay one of the most beautiful and memorable ones of our honeymoon and time in NZ. Warwick House is a credit to you and all those before you who has added to its character and elegance. And thank you for the modest price you charge for such a real and unforgettable taste of NZ history.

All the best.

Joshua and Angela

p.s. hi Vicky 

“Over-priced, not impressed.”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 23 September 2011

Our travel agent booked this B&B for us during our tour of New Zealand for the Rugby World Cup. I was excited to stay here after reviewing their website. However, when we got there, the first thing that was odd was having to ring the doorbell everytime we needed to get into the main house and speak to the owner. Our room was not in the main house. It was like a servants quarters with 2 separate bedrooms that shared a kitchenette and foyer. Our room was very small and very cold. We did have a radiator heater that helped, however. The shower was nice but the toilet flush lever got stuck the very first time we used it and we had to go get the owner to come down and fix it. We only got 2 towels, 2 face towels, and one hand towel for our room. I couldn't get our TV to work. The owner did have plenty of brochures of local restaurants, tourist sites, etc... for us to use during our stay; and nicely told us how to best explore Abel Tasman Park (via water shuttle). Breakfast was not included with our stay. The location is good, and I did walk into town once to just walk around and shop, but the rest of the time, we just drove into town for dinner. In summary, I thought it was overpriced for the room we got...I never even got to see the rest of house at all, as it seemed to be "off-limits" to us staying in the "maids quarters". I would not stay here again.

Dear Guest,The room you stayed in The Daisy Jener is our smallest room as your travel agent would have informed you.You also looked at our webpage which has all the rooms with sizes and descriptions. It may have been that the larger rooms were already booked as many reservations are made 6 months in advance. All rooms can be booked including breakfast. If a booking is made, room only breakfast is available on request as stated on your room confirmation supplied by your agent. We supply all rooms with 2 bath towels,2 face cloths, and a hand towel.Reception has extra room supplies if required. We do appreciate guests contributing to our sustainability policy which is an environmental strategy to reduce water and power useage. We live on the premises and the reception bell is a way that you can contact us, because of security and privacy we cannot allow guests to wonder through our home.I hope this will help you in your future travels.Bon voyage,Jenny
