The desk & chair in our room were above usual standard. Perfect. Central location for shopping. Windows that opened. Great air con. Nice toiletries. Love shower over bath, and standard shower controls - not those ones that double as bath taps! Couldn't hear other guests in next room. Nice pool area, even if its unheated. Friendly staff. Covered carpark. Oceana restaurant ok, but over-rated. Battered fish meal ridiculous size - could feed 4! It was a little noisy on Sat nite, but that's to be expected in cbd. No ice cubes in bar fridge! could have better fan in bathroom.
But overall a good place. However, if u want central location, but on budget, stay at yha.

Great view from the window. Room very clean.Nice bathroom as must have been a refurbished room, ask when booking. Shower was a bit pitiful (no pressure) and there was a charge for the plunger coffee in the room. Parking is outside but speak nicely to reception and they might be able to let you park in the basement. VERY close to town and restaurants. We got the room for $170. The tepinyaki restaurant was fun and good service, very pleasant staff but both restaurants and bar were very quiet therefore lacking atmosphere. It was a Thursday night in January.

A perfectly acceptable centrally located full service hotel. But do ask for one of the recently refurbished rooms. However, I was surprised at the plug-in broadband charge of $15 for each 150mb of data used and opted for a wireless stick instead. Parking is unsecured, but Nelson isn't known for vehicle crime with one of the lowest rates in the country.

The Japanese tepinaki restaurant was fun.

Maybe they should also offer the hotel Sky TV service recently launched by this satellite provider?

We stayed here for one night and we were ready to leave the next morning. We were expecting a little bit more of this hotel based on it's location and our previous experiences on our trip. Hotel lobby and restaurants are dated, but our room was updated and comfortable. We were surprised to find the hotel seemed very empty and some of the restaurants weren't open due to the low occupancy. This was the week leading up to Christmas when many of the other hotels we stayed at were full. We ventured out to town for dinner & had a pleasant experience. Close proximity to town is definitely a plus. We didn't need our car once we arrived at the hotel. Service at the hotel was very good, although it felt a bit "stuffy" for our liking.

Breakfast at hotel in dining room was inedible. Ordered an omelet with tomatoes & mushrooms which arrived at the table grey in color and tasted like burnt oil. Definitely go out for breakfast.
