A perfectly acceptable centrally located full service hotel. But do ask for one of the recently refurbished rooms. However, I was surprised at the plug-in broadband charge of $15 for each 150mb of data used and opted for a wireless stick instead. Parking is unsecured, but Nelson isn't known for vehicle crime with one of the lowest rates in the country.

The Japanese tepinaki restaurant was fun.

Maybe they should also offer the hotel Sky TV service recently launched by this satellite provider?

We stayed here for one night and we were ready to leave the next morning. We were expecting a little bit more of this hotel based on it's location and our previous experiences on our trip. Hotel lobby and restaurants are dated, but our room was updated and comfortable. We were surprised to find the hotel seemed very empty and some of the restaurants weren't open due to the low occupancy. This was the week leading up to Christmas when many of the other hotels we stayed at were full. We ventured out to town for dinner & had a pleasant experience. Close proximity to town is definitely a plus. We didn't need our car once we arrived at the hotel. Service at the hotel was very good, although it felt a bit "stuffy" for our liking.

Breakfast at hotel in dining room was inedible. Ordered an omelet with tomatoes & mushrooms which arrived at the table grey in color and tasted like burnt oil. Definitely go out for breakfast.

I stayed at this property as part of a national conference. The rooms are clean, tidy, comfortable and well maintained. What created the best impression with me was the quality of the staff, their service ethic and their attention to detail. Good service and New Zealand don't normally go hand in hand - this property shows that with the right training and good management we can get it right - well done.

We paid a premium price for this hotel probably because it was during the Rugby World Cup. We were expecting something stunning. What we got was a very tired and dated hotel with very shabby furnishings and cheap furniture. The bathroom was small and needed some TLC particularly the shower/bath. The toilet was permanently stained not what you expect in a top hotel. The wardrobe was not big enough for one never mind two. Our room had a queen sized bed and a single bed in it,although we had only asked for a double room, and we had paid extra for a sea view which turned out to be a distant view of the harbour! We felt it compared with a basic travelodge room. There was nothing to suggest "heritage".The location is great and Nelson is very pretty with a pretty cathedral and great market but this hotel was very disappointing. Of all the accommodation we stayed in during three weeks in NZ this was the worst and we would definitely opt for a B&B next time as they represent far better value for money. They tend to be more up to date and in some cases very stylish.
Breakfast was good and the service was fine. All the staff were friendly and helpful but that was true of everywhere we stayed.
