As a place to grab a feed and put my head down while on a business trip, Kingsgate Oamaru was great! The staff are friendly, helpful and not corporate robots that you get at some places. The people at reception connected well and made sure I had what I needed. The bar and restaurant meant I didn't have to go around town trying to find somewhere at short notice after arrival. Good one Kingsgate Oamaru!

We decided to explore our local area and after staying at Kingsgate hotels elsewhere we went for the b&b deal for $115.in Oamaru at the Brydone Kingsgate.
At lunchtime on the day we received a call saying breakfast deal wasn't available but they would reduce our rate ,they did by $15. which makes breakfast worth $7:50 each.
Then when we arrived they could do a continental b/fast to our room, said without enthusiasm. We decided to eat out. The towel I used was thread bare with holes coming in it.The room had chipped paint, and was dreary. Place needs a revamp.

Part II of our rearranged trip. Our travel agents booked this for us and there were no problems. The hotel is quite old, although there is a newer wing where we had our room. The room was OK; clean and reasonably well equipped. On street parking is available. We didn't use the restaurant. There are two desktops for guest use that are on a meter.

Oamaru was a nice place to visit - penguins, moreaki boulders, limestone buildings and crafts.

Drove up to Oamaru for a weekend break was pleasantly surprised by the Hotel. Stunning old building with heaps of character. When we enquired at reception staff were very friendly and offered lots of tips about what to see and do. We stayed in a standard room which was fairly basic but clean, tidy and as described to us by reception. Breakfast was reasonably priced and very good. We will stay again.
