The owners of this hotel keep sending out bargain prices, so I have stayed there twice this year. Its nice to just get away for the night. First time, they put me in a room near the front, which had a small sitting room, a bathroom just as big as the sitting room and a separate bedroom. This is in the old part of the hotel, accessible by a wonderful wooden staircase. Bed was very comfy, hotel was clean and there was a touch of class to the room.
Second time round, the room was in the new wing, and a bit more functional, although spacious and comfortable. It was above the bar at the back of the hotel on a Friday night, so I feared the worst: didn't hear a sound.
Both rooms had TV and fridge, both were a bit dated (no flat screens as yet). The service on all four times I dealt with the check in/out staff was friendly and professional. The hotel is right in the middle of town, so its possible to walk to the Victorian precinct and to the various shops and cafes of Oamaru. It is two blocks from the bus station.
I actually dined in one night: the casserole was probably one of the strengths of the restaurant and was very good. I had a more fancy entree featuring angel hair pasta, scallops and prawns - this was not so well executed.
