“Great location and service”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 21 January 2012

We stayed 2 nights on our Sth Island road trip. This property is quite lovely. It's down a long driveway and is very private, but still just across the road from the beach. It's a touch out of the main shopping area, but a short walk to the bars and restaurants - but this was good with a family.
The service was stand out! Deb was so friendly, and keen to share her local knowledge - very helpful t first time travelers.
Great value as well for a room with seperate bedroom for the kids.
Highly recommend a stay at Sails!

“A welcome like no other... a great New Years Eve and a sad goodbye...”

We stayed here for 3 nights over New Year (11/12) and had a great time. The accommodation is spotless, well appointed, and the motel is in a good location. It is outside of the main area of shops and bars and pubs (which means its quieter) and on the best part of the beach. It's a really easy 2-5 minute walk to the bars, restaurants etc. Debs and Ted could not have done enough for us. They even arranged for some bubbly for us on the beach at New Year. When we returned home to our room, Debs had lit a lantern outside room on our patio area to welcome us back! Nice touches that make you feel so welcome. All in all this was excellent value for money. We would stay here again, and would recommend to our friends and family.

“Great location & very helpful Manager”

I have stayed here 3 times and always found it clean and welcoming. Debs is very knowledgeable and keen to share this with her guests. I would recommend this as a good base for anyone exploring the area.

“Not fancy but a good place to stay”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 2 January 2012

It’s a narrow runway leading from the main road into Sails Motel, but it’s well signposted at not hard to find. Owner Deb was a lovely host, we felt very welcome all from the first e-mail contact to when we left after just a one night stay.
Kaikoura is a pretty place well worth visiting and this motel offers good rates, so we have no trouble recommending it, but to be honest our room was a little bit spartan and dated. Clean and comfy nevertheless.

“Very comfortable”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 1 January 2012

This place is tucked behind the main shore front and so is peaceful and quiet for a great night's sleep. In fact, I think we were the only residents on our one night in May. It is not great if you want sea views, but these are only a stone's throw away. And it was tremendous value for money in comparison to other places we stayed at. The studio room was extremely comfortable and warm with lovely furnishings. We would not hesitate to stay again or recommend this place to friends. Deb and Ted were extremely helpful and wanted to ensure our stay in the South Island was as enjoyable as they could make it. They told us what to see and do in the area and gave us a fabulous, suggested itinerary for a route over to the west coast with places to stop; we were extremely grateful for the advice. Deb suggested we should cross via the Lewis pass and the views certainly did not disappoint - simply awesome! She was very keen to spend as much time as necessary to ensure we got the itinerary right.
