“Nice Little B&B”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 30 August 2010

We were lucky enough to stay at the Driftwood Villa whilst touring around New Zealand.

There is adequate onsite parking, free use of their hot tub and use of the French Boules lawn. We did however think that the internet was very expensive.

The bedroom we stayed in was very comfortable, if not a tad on the small side; however it was decorated to a very high standard, as was the rest of the house, with a very well stocked hospitality tray. The en suite was also a tad small. As we were only staying for one night it didn’t bother us, and please don’t let this put you off booking in.

The breakfast was lovely, there were lots of lovely fruits and cereals to begin with then Chris cooked whatever hot food you would like.

This lovely B&B is a fair walk to the town but quite close to the Whaleway Station.

Chris has really good local knowledge and pointed out some fantastic restaurants, local land marks and activities.

Guests stay in a separate house, with the hosts house at the back of the property. We would highly recommend the Driftwood Villa.

“Nice”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 26 February 2010

The Driftwood Villa is certainly not a "Villa", but it was nice - a four bedroom home. The room and bathroom were small. We got in around 5:00-6:00 and our hosts were out, so we had no recommendations for dinner. The first we saw our host was for breakfast, but he fixed a GREAT made-to-order breakfast.

“Friendly hosts, good facilities and ideal location for Whaleway Station”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 18 February 2010

A great place to stay with the Whaleway station an easy walk away. Our host made bread for breakfast and all food was cooked to order. The accomodation had its own kitchen and sitting room which gave guests the opportunity to meet and talk over the day's excursions. We only stayed 1 night but would have liked to stay longer.

“Very good place to stay”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 7 February 2010

We had one night here and found it a very good bed and breakfast. The breakfast in particular was great with a wide choice including fresh strawberries from the garden. The rooms were comfortable, not large but there was a large sitting room and outside seating if needed. Wifi cost $5.

“Quality and comfort with character - you'll love it”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 11 January 2010

We took over the whole B&B on the self-catering holiday house option for our group of 8. True, the ensuites to each room have been added within the rooms and so are on the small side, but clean and perfectly adequate. It has lovely linens and lots of curios together with a charming garden and spa, a cosy fireplace, local info, books, games, TV and a well-equipped kitchen (not modern, but still good). The spacious living area was ideal for us to gather at night after the kids had gone to bed (and despite being globetrotting brats, they STILL rave about the bedside touch lamps at this property!). There's a strange black pebbled beach behind the villa which you can walk along to the main centre enjoying wonderful ocean and alpine views. Driftwood Villa is a great place to stay and take in the incredibly scenic town of Kaikoura. Incidentally, its for sale so I hope the next owners maintain it as well and are as hospitable at the current ones.
