Accommodation looked very nice from their web site. The whole building is in need of upgrading and was not paticularly clean as we had to remove cobwebs from our room on arrival.Breakfasts not value for money as the only cooked choice each day seemed to be while we were there, scrambled egg and bacon. As you have to do most things yourself ie make your own tea & toast, we thought it seemed a bit backpackerish.We do however believe that the evening meals are very good but we did not eat there so we can not comment on that.

We stayed at the The Old Convent Hotel that had been recommended in several guidebooks. We were supposed to have dinner there, but when we arrived we were told that the cook was not available and therefore, no dinner. It was quite dark and raining so we had to trudge out and find a pace to eat. The host did not seem concerned that she was not providing dinner as promised and made little attempt to help us except to say that n town there were quite a number of places to eat. The rooms were very plain and the bed uncomfortable. In fact, something bit me in the middle of the night. Despite what some of the guidebooks say, I would look for another place to stay in Kaikoura. Warning—it rains a lot in Kaikoura!

Fantastic find - booked through Trailfinders on our honeymoon trip and arrived in October. Warm welcome and beautiful room and surroundings.

Trouble was it over 2km out of Kaikoura and we thought they did dinners (which they do do in the high season. Also the weather was awful and Kaikoura doesn't look or feel good in the rain.

The Old Convent though brought me my best view upon waking up before the clouds came in of snow capped mountains.

Big log burning stove to feed in the evenings and very snug !
