Nothing flash but the beds were very comfortable and mattresses clean, the kitchenette facilities clean as was the lounge. The bathroom was a bit on the bare side but it didnt matter. The rooms were warm and it smelled clean. The manager was very friendly and very obliging. We enjoyed Hokitika - local fresh fish & chips and a walk along the "beach" in the cold looking for Pounamu Jade was a highlight - as was a visit to the local cemetary on our own tour-- the history of the town is so interesting. Our hall table still has a pile of "Pounamu Jade " rocks from Hokitika.
We would stay at this hotel again.

We stayed here for one night. The owner was friendly and helpful. We had a one-bedroom unit, which was very large. It was clean and well-equipped with a large kitchen area and table/chairs, but unfortunately it is not very modern; the fridge, microwave and cooker/oven were all rather old, the bathroom taps were showing their age, and you sank nearly to the floor when sitting on the sofa! However the worst thing was the fusty/mouldy/damp smell throughout the unit, occasionally very strong. Perhaps this is inevitable in a resort which gets so much rain, but it made being in the room unpleasant and we were glad to leave.

We stayed overnight at Fitzherbert Hokitika on our way to the Glacier. We checked in just before dinner time, and it was quick and excellent. Dave (the manager, and owner) gave us direction on where we can shop for groceries, and where to eat. Milk was given at the check in time too.
Overall, clean room, and it was spacious too. If only the shower was as spacious as the room. Also, you can't drag the TV into the bedroom as the cable is too short.

After staying at 4 and 5 star hotels across the world I don't know why we bother when you can find places as comfortable and immaculate as this. We stayed in a 2 bedroom unit which was spacious comfortable and so clean and tidy. We were made most welcome and this must be the best value for money place I have ever stayed at....we will be back next time we stay on the West Coast.
