Stayed at Alma Motel recently with 3 young children. Found the staff happy to help with anything – talk about service with a smile! Had a great dinner at Stonze restaurant. Really nice place, good location – have already booked our next long weekend there.

Would not stay there again. The room was next to noisy neighbours. All the furnishings were very tired. The door and window latches were poor. We slept on two beds so that we would not roll into each other. That way we sort of got to sleep before the noisy neighbours got going late in the night. When hubby got up to shut the window and knocked my bed - I thought were having an earthquake and then I thought he was an intruder ... Continental Breakfast was over priced. The Stonez Restaurant was fun - you can cook your own food on a very hot stone at your table. Probably would not do it again as it is a bit tricky having the very hot stone sitting in front of you. At a Restaurant I prefer not to cook my own food.

We booked for 1 night based on previous comments on tripadvisor and the complementary videos on the hotel website. We stayed in a 2 bedroom unit with kitchen and lounge area.
The accommodation was basic and the decor dated. Many of the surfaces (including bedside alarm clock) were greasy or sticky.
There were several guys standing around outside drinking and loud music coming from one of the units. First impressions made me want to leave but didn't know where else to go.
Based on the cleanliness of the room, we chose not to try the restaurant and drove into town. We ate at the Rutland Arms Inn which was really nice.
When checking out, we complained to the manager about the cleanliness and the noise. He explained that there were railway construction workers living in the hotel. He did discount the room rate and said he would speak to the cleaners, but didn't seem that bothered by the feedback.

From their website this seems to be a good place - testimonial and all. I was not happy with the place. Three nights there was plenty for me.
Beds not made any day.
Garbage taken out but that was about it.
Had to ask for more kitchen supplies each day.
Parking was good.
Did not use the restaurant there.
Accommodation in Wanganui is a bit limited but this was not good value. Try the Rutland Arms Hotel downtown. Old and refurbished with a wonderful restaurant. Free parking along the river about 2 blocks away. Wanganui is worth a visit to see its restored downtown area.
