“Nice Place”

Very nice hostel. I thoroughly enjoyed my stay here. Booked a room the the Sanctuary (a part of the hostel for girls only) and found the room very clean and the beds very comfy. We had a very spacious ensuite bathroom and plenty of storage space. They bring you cups of tea/coffee in bed in the morning if you ask the night before! Excellent service! The kitchen is in the basement so has no windows and is a little dark but the eating area is nice with large comfy sofas and a decent sized TV. Staff are very friendly and a help desk is available for anyone looking to book excursions. Location is central and a stones throw from the beach. Once a week they have a dance night where glasses of champagne are free for ladies. Excellent hostel and well worth the money.

Room Tip: The Sanctuary rooms are excellent and a free tea/coffee service is available in the morning for thos...

“Friendly and comfortable”

Stayed in a sanctuary room, with an en-suite bathroom. The room was very spacious and clean. There are large lockable draws under the beds so you can store your stuff safely without having to pay the ridiculous price for a locker, only thing is you need your own padlock. Its in a great location by the beach and most of the staff were very friendly and helpful. When we were there the kitchen was being referbished so they provided all guest with breakfast and dinner. They also let you check in at anytime which is good if you've just got off a long flight.

Room Tip: Females can get sanctuary rooms, with a complimentary towel, shampoo etc and can use hair straightne...

“Won't be staying again”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 20 January 2012

Where to begin - booked a santuary room, turned up and they'd overbooked so was pushed to a 4 bed ensuite. Pokey room - could barely get through the door with my backpack and around the first bunk bed. Upside is they threw in breakfast and some smellies for my incovenience. Guy on reception was really helpful to his credit - friendly, apologetic and just really nice. He was the only thing I can think of that's positive about the experience...

The mattress on my bed - old. You could feel all the springs and I woke up with a really bad shoulder through having to sleep awkwardly around the metal digging through the mattress. Carpets - old. Rooms felt dirty, although bathroom was clean. Noise from the bar incredible. Price of drinks in the bar incredible too - and not in a good way.

Good range of computers for internet use and a travel desk. Didn't use kitchen or laundry.

Security good because you needed a key card to enter the building and the lifts so that was a plus.

Breakfast - I went to take my free breakfast and was instantly bawled out in front of other guests, for failing to hand over my voucher prior to popping my toast in the toaster. This member of staff made me feel about an inch tall, and could do with not jumping to incorrect conclusions, ie that I was about to rob 2 slices of toast. She didn't move from her seat and was just plain rude - definitely needs work on her customer service skills...

“Rip off and noisy!”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 10 January 2012

I stayed here in November 2011 in a double en-suite room at $110 per night - so not worth that! They provide ear plugs - and that would be because the window is so thin that you can hear the traffic and the trams passing outside, and the drunk people late at night. You even have to turn the TV up to hear over the trams - no joke.

They emptied the bins most days, but i stayed for two weeks so a vacuum during that time would have been good. The bed was comfy though.

There were no cupboards or hanging space in the room so it was literally living out of a suitcase,

The kitchen was too small for the amount of people who had to use it so it was a case of fighting for space.
There were only really two common areas; the basement kitchen and the foyer/internet area/bar which was blaring music all day - particularly noisy at night which rules out any skyping you may wish to do.

The location of the hostel itself was good with Ackland Street behind with supermarkets, clothes shops and cake shops, and a few minutes walk to tram into the city which runs every 10-15 mins.

Shame about the hostel!

Room Tip: Don't pay $110 a night for a double en-suite as it's not worth it - go to a hotel!!

“Some staff just ruin it!”

So where to start....
Party hostel no! As long as its their rules and your pumping money into their bar yeh perfect but the minute it closes its be quiet get to bed or walk the streets or be thrown out!
Over crowded rooms mouldy bathroom which cleaners come in and throw yourstuff on the floor and leave it there.
Some staff are great there, happy to help but others power mad, one even boasted how he would throw anyone out anytime and that he had even thrown someone in a wherlchair out, not something to boast about, complete position abuser snd loves to show it.
Location is good too n travel advised but some staff ruin whole experience!!!
