We booked 3 nights acc through our travel agent,in early Dec for our holiday in january .Charnwood motel took our booking even though they where renovating,(people in the area said they have been for the last 3 months).she took all of the money out of our visa as we had to give her credit card details to hold the rooms.She took a lot more money out than needed 3 nights worth plus some (when you look at the rates for the motel).when we arrived in st kilda on boxing day we only found what resembled a building site at the address supplied.We rang the phone no supplied and she said the renos where not finished and she tryed to contact us but couldnt.
She booked us into another motel through Wotif so then we went there stayed the night,but then had to waste half of the next day moving to the next motel. when we got there there was no booking for us, lucky there was a booking made through wotif but no details where posted so the receptionist took it as our booking.
we went to tazzy not knowing if we had a room when we came back,we tried ringing charnwood motel dozens of times leaving messages etc but no return calls.finally the day before we came home we got a call saying we where staying in another different motel.
we would like to thank all the other motels we stayed in the Quest,the Crest and easystay,and strongly recommend them.
Coming home and doing some investigation the charnwood Motel took $860 from us and the total cost for the other 3 motels was $710. She RIPPED us off $150 and we wasted a lot of time running around,HOW CAN SHE TAKE BOOKINGS WHEN HER MOTEL IS BEING RENOVATED!!!!!!!!

The price and location plus appearance on the web made this a good choice. I was in a hurry and made the mistake of not checking the Trip Advisor reviews. If the wet and smelly carpet was not there I would have found it OK at the price point. The parking was rather tight but we were able to park and for $110 for the night and I slept OK. It is a bit run down and threadbare but for the location and price OK if the wet carpet is not there.

Although located on a relatively quiet, leafy side street, this place is the pits. This "hotel" is basically a former block of cheap housing commission flats/apartments. The rooms are absolutely disgusting: an obviously unpainted patch of ceiling in one corner surrounding a supposed fire alarm, cracked and messily patched plaster walls, an obvious section of wall left unpainted and screws still showing where some furniture had been detached. Also, a "kitchenette" that consisted of a rusting kettle, an old microwave and scarcely enough space to place a pair of cups on saucers. There was a long dark hair in our "fresh" towels. Part of the frame for the bathroom door handle popped out and fell on the floor as we opened it.. Green-black grime around the shower basin and light switches, no slide or security lock on the door to the room. In fact, it looked as though the door could be easily opened with a screwdriver or a swift kick. While we were in the room, someone tried to force the door - thankfully unsuccessfully. The one luxury item the room posessed was a faded insignia of "Royal Doulton" on the top of the toilet tank. This "hotel" would be more suitable for crashing junkies or newly arrived violent jihadists. Couldn't understand a word the desk clerk said when checking in -English spoken here? During our almost-one-night stay, we could hear everything going on in the next rooms and were awakened constantly by revellers on our floor -humping trash cans or throwing their shoes at each other? Couldn't tell. We finally got fed up and left around midnight. The advertised proprietors are obviously not the ones running the place currently. Immigration scam? You decide.

On arrival we were met with a $50 key deposit. The worn out and dirty carpet on the stairs and the loose/wobbly hand rail on the landing were just the start. No milk for coffee, dirty room, peeling paint and plaster repairs. I will let the photo's give you an idea of the rest.
