“Newly renovated”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 8 November 2008

We are travelling around Australia from England and planned our trip around Melbourne Cup Week last week. Bishopsgate has just re opened after major renovations. One room that was a guest room is now a dining room meaning we had extra space although we didnt really need it.
The guest rooms have all been re furbished and look fantastic. We stayed in The Orient Rooms. Great value for $175.00 a night including breakfast. We were in an excellent location to get to the races despite public tranpsort problems.
The owners are real foodies and so breakfasts were fantastic using free range products which we demand. Bishopsgate also offers free coffees from its commercial coffee machine. A great extra.
We loved our stay and hope to go back there.

“Loved Bishopsgate”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 2 October 2008

We have been travelling extensively around Australia. Our first stop was at Bishopsgate Bed and Breakfast in the wonderful bayside suburb of St Kilda.
On reflection it is still the best accommmodation on our trip.
They have just renovated and increased the guest lounge dining areas . We hardly needed more space as we were in the French Suite and it was just wonderful. We looked atthe room next to us the Orient Room and it is fantastic too.
Breakfasts are excellent and the hosts could not do enough for us.
We have been thrilled with this choice and cant recommend it highly enough. It surpassed our expectations.

“Well maintained B & B”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 24 June 2007

My boyfriend and I have just emigrated from the UK to Australia. Before we settled into Aussie life we took the opportunity to travel to Hong Kong, Sydney, Canberra and Melbourne before arriving and settling in Adelaide.

We stayed in the Orient Room which was well presented but although it does have its own bathroom it is seperate to the bedroom and at the end of the landing, we were expecting an ensuite room.

We had looked on trip advisor and people had mentioned the great breakfasts but we had the same experience as the person on the review before. We were not given a choice of hot breakfast and on the first morning we were given an ommlette which seemed to contain cheese and we think spinach, which was not to our taste and after that we stuck to cereal and toast.

On a positive note though it was easter when we stayed and little easter eggs and chocolates were left out for the guests to help themselves to which was a nice touch.

The hosts were very friendly and welcoming and we liked the location in St Kilda and it is handy to get the tram into the city.

You are also able to connect to their wireless broadband which is handy if you want to keep in touch.

Our visit here got off to a bad start before we even got there, when we contacted them before leaving the UK to arrange an airport pick-up. That's when they explained that despite our confirmed booking at an agreed price they wanted to increase the price as the Grand Prix and Swimming was on and costs had increased due to the drought. At that late stage we had no time to arrange anything else and everything was booked up anyway so reluctantly we agreed to the increased price. Our plane was delayed and the pick-up decided not to wait or return later leaving us to get a taxi at a much greater cost. We arrived late at night, irritable to say the least and we were showed to our room.

Next morning we realised two things, this was not the room we booked and it had no windows, so no natural light. We asked to be moved to our booked room and were moved without fuss the only explanation being that they had thought they were doing us a favour by upgrading us. So don't book the Victoria room if you value daylight. The rest of the stay went wihout incident but we were not impressed, the rooms could have benefitted from a dusting, the cooked breakfast was plonked in front of you, no choice or warning eg. an omelette one morning and i dislike omelettes. Little things irritated us, forgetting spoons in our room, not enough tea with breakfast, not being there when we came down for breakfast. As potential B&B owners ourselves soon, we learned much, particularly how compacency creeps in if you let it. For the price this did not live up to our expectations.

“Great Service + Great Location = Great Holiday”

Stayed at Bishopsgate apartment situated approx 200m from B/B ( Mary St ) on Fitzroy Street . Rest of group stayed at B/B itself . Found the apartment to be clean , tidy and comfortable with almost everything that was needed provided for us and anything we did ask for ( such as a high-chair and a technician to repair the washing machine - which broke down during our stay ) was provided quickly and without fuss by the owners . Situated on a very busy road so can be a little noisy despite the double glazing , but then again if you don't want lively then why stay in St Kilda ? Owners couldn't do enough for our group on the whole and even looked after many of our cases for us ( after we had checked out! )whilst we stayed elsewhere for four days to attend a wedding. Those that stayed at Bishopsgate loved the place and raved constantly about the excellent and varied breakfasts in particular !
