We had flown all the way from the UK to stay here for our cousins wedding 26th November. The hotel was booked and from the hotel web site it looked and presented well. We were very excited.
The reception was the usual trendy dimly lit affair with a nice bright restaurant adjacent. The bar with its glass wine cellar was impressive.
Upon arrival we were presented with our room, 420, a twin which on face value was great. It was big enough with a good looking bathroom. The beds were comfortable with good linen and pillows. The room was opposite the lift so i was consious that we may hear it moving all night.....no it was not a problem......what i did hear though was a vibration type noise eminating from somewhere in the building. I noted it and comented on it to my traveling partner, hoping it would not continue into the night.
We explored Melbourne and came back to the hotel late to meet with the rest of the family in the bar. We were very well looked after and left to go out for dinner. Upon return and going to bed, there was the noise, repetative and with no real rythmn, it went on all night until i fell asleep at 4am!
As i am quite a relaxed kind of guy i let it lie hoping it was bad luck for that night. At breakfast we were not educated that the menu offered to us was all included in our nights stay. Once we had established this, we order fruit, scrambled egg and coffee, the fruit was faultless, the scrambled egg was good but dressed up with pured spinach that looked like guess what...something a pidgeon would leave behind. When i asked for my coffee, all i wanted was a white coffee......simple to most people, but this server (a young girl who didnt really know what time of day it was) could'nt understand what i wanted. Did i want a long black, long white, cappuccino, latte, skinny etc, all i wanted was a white filter coffee! Simple really. They were trying to be too clever for their own good. My family reordered coffees and teas which were forgotten about and we needed to remind the staff on all of the three mornings we were there. I would also comment that they were not busy/over worked, so no excuses, we were paying premium rates to stay here.
After the wedding which was unfortnately rained on and so we could not use the deck, the following morning everyone complained of noise, even the bride. Her bridal room was over the club on the front of the hotel which went on til the early hours of the morning. All in all not an impressive three night stay and one i would not recommend to other full paying guests.
My sister complained on checking out and was offered $50 off the bill to which she laughed at. This was swiftly followed up with a 50% reduction on our bill. Thats more like it, but i flew back to the UK with about 4hours sleep under my belt!!
A real shame. They need to sort the noise out, i am a builder and could not establish where it was coming from. They need to get older individuals to run the front reception desk who react to complaints with a bit more enthusiasm and gusto than the young lady i spoke to, they need to make the breakfast offer less trendy and keep it simple...i dont need semolina and spinach with my eggs...(i did ask for them to be left off my plate, but again this was forgotten and not noted), they need to improve the quality of staff all round. The bar staff were however excellent.
Good luck if you chose this venue. I am sure there are better nights sleep close by.
Room Tip: Dont get given 420 because of the noise i mention, my parents were in 408 which was nice but very br...
