“In fairness it has improved”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 8 January 2011

Just a quick review. I wrote a less than favourable review about this place this time last year, and Im pleased to say that whilst they wont win any customer service of the year awards this place appears to have improved in the area of how guests are treated. Stayed in the newer deluxe cabins this time round and they are much nicer, larger, however they are a little on the dirty side already, ie carpets stained, walls marked. It is great to be able to sit on the large decks out the front and just watch all the kids ride their scooters and bikes, whilst you relax and enjoy a glass of wine. Pool hasnt gotten any bigger, however this time we were spoken to nicely about tyring to keep splashing to a minimum and the park was generally very neat and clean. Compared with the other parks around the Geelong/Great Ocean Road/Bellarine this place is a bargain thats why we returned. Stayed at the Bellarine Big 4 in October and while this place is in a league of its own it was twice the price over the Xmas period, when all you really want is a place to sleep, pool and play area for the kids, centrally located to the region it is hard to go past.

“RUDE RUDE RUDE”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 16 May 2010

The facilities were lovely but the staff were not. We had two guests attempt to join our group and both were treated very nastily along with the accompanying rude phone calls to demand why we had invited other people into the camp area. And the "subtle" suggestion that if we wished to have the activity area for activities that we could pay for it. Our room was inspected 2 mins after we left - even checking for damage on the floor boards in case "THOSE" kids might have damaged anything.

“Basic & Sufficient, nice enough”

We paid AUD 159/cabin/night for two 2-bedroom cabins, one across the path opposite from each other. Both were new and clean, though one was more so than the other, and the size slightly larger. The larger one had a bigger living room, which comfortably accomodated the 8 of us young adults while chilling out. There was a small patio outside the cabin, and table and chairs for lounging if you prefer. Kitchen was sufficiently equipped. 1 bedroom had a DBL bed (with tv), and the other had 2 bunk beds (pillows and doonas were provided. But bring your own linen - or pay a ridiculous AUD 12 per bed for linen!! The most expensive I've come across) which could sleep 4 (though only 4 of us slept in a cabin). The bunk room will be a little squeezy for bigger sized people - the space between the 2 bunk beds allowed only 1 person at a time. Cars are parked just outside the cabin.

One of our cabin, upon checking in, we realised had no tv, though it was said there would be one. The sliding glass window was found on the table, and we had an exposed window. Tipped off the management, and the lady's 1st reaction was "Not again!" - so I'd presume such wasn't the 1st time it happened. They called the police etc, and fixed the window, but we were kinda apprehensive about leaving valuables in the cabin. I'd advise, as with staying in most places, not to leave valuables in the house.

We did not use any of the other facilities. Used it as a resting point since we just touched down in Melbourne, before driving the next day to Great Ocean Road. Nice quiet place to stay in with friends or family, and driving to eateries etc was maybe 5-10mins? Did not check out the "older" cabins to compare though.

“A poor representation of a Big 4!”

I am going to do my best to be objective about our stay, however it would be fair to say that as a result of the current management of the park our stay along with that of our other travelling companions (3 families) was possibly the worse experience any of us have had staying in what should be a family friendly park!
The good bits - it is a nice sized park especially with young kids that you need to keep an eye on. It is cheap compared to other caravan parks over the Xmas holiday period, the location is pretty good with shops close by for groceries/food etc. The facilities are pretty good as well, although the pool is ridiculously small.
The bad bits - Customer service leaves alot to be desired! It started when we checked in and were given our rooms. We had all booked deluxe cabins, however when we got to our cabins they were nothing like the deluxe cabins we viewed on the website. We queried this however were told that they have different types of 'deluxe' cabins and we would know for next time! We did have a look through a deluxe cabin and they are very nice and roomy, however what we stayed in was very small, old and somewhat dirty, with 2 adults, 2 kids and a baby in ours it was not a comfortable stay.
What upset us the most about our stay was how our kids were treated by the park managers/staff. The children (aged between 3-6) were constantly being told off, in fact they were often yelled at! The were told off for splashing in the pool, riding scooters, running, all the things young children like to do. The Managers/staff also walked constantly through the park smoking cigarettes, I was forever taking butts out of my 1 years olds mouth, which is not only disgusting and dirty but unprofessional.
It is a shame that we and our children were made to feel so unwelcomed, Im sure some of you may think that we must of had terribly naughty kids, however whilst they might not be angels they are all good, well behaved kids. We would love to have made this place our regular spot for the Xmas period, sadly as regular guests at Big4 establishments it has also tarnished the high regard we hold for Big 4.

“BIG 4 Geelong, Barrabool Road, the worst service EVER experienced”

Well I did not even have to stay there to find this out first hand.
They have a kiosk along the main road, which we on a very warm day decided to get an ice cream for our very hot 3 year old and six year old.
We clearly interrupted the supposed service assistant from her pot of tea with her friends as she firstly asked my friend to move her car (in a parking bay I should add), I did not hear her asking this, so when she points to my car (well out of the way of any passing traffic) she says who's is that, when I say mine she just says "move it".
This was after mouthing of to her friends, "is she death of something", so as to not upset the children, I hurry them inside, say choose an icecream lets go before we get into so more trouble!!!

So when my 6 year old places her icelolly on the counter, and I say "that is a bubble gum lolly", she just stares at me, says nothing, so I ask, how much is it?
She then takes the ice cream out of my daughters hand, and my friends hand, and starts shouting, "I am not serving you becuase you are rude"
Well I could not believe the oddasity of the woman, she was rude, not at all customer orientated, and as the 3 kids were sobbing their hearts out she could not care less.

So we left and we will never be back, maybe she was having a bad day, who knows, but what I do know is this, no way will any family of mine from abroad ever be staying there.
