“Clean, quiet and very comfortable in a brilliant location.”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 26 September 2010

We stayed for one night and chose it based on previous reviews. Taking the advice we booked room 7 and were not disappointed. I like the set out with the shower/toilet seperate to the vanity basin and plenty of hanging space. It was a very welcoming, comfortable and clean room. Bed was great and we had no noise whatsoever other than a couple of self important gentlement who chose to stand outside our room near the BBQ and carry on a conversation at the top of their voices. Thankfully it didn't last long and it wasn't very late at that stage. Slept very well. The motel is in a top location and we ate at a great little Indian restaurant. Historic buildings and the mall are only a short stroll. Would totally recommend Best Western Bakery Hill Motel.

“Great service but noisy location - don't stay on a Saturday night!”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 29 August 2010

My partner and I stayed at the Best Western Bakery Hill Motel on Saturday night. Helen at the service desk was really nice, however when we drove in, the car park had a cramped feel about it - not much room to reverse (hate to have a caravan). The room was spacious and apotlessly clean. The heater worked well - but couldn't get pay TV going - our room may have missed out. The rooms were supposedly refurbished - but there was no separate shower! It is so old fashioned to have the shower over the bath - why even have a bath (unless it's a spa) in a queen room? We settled down for the night, but couldn't sleep because the band playing at the hotel nextdoor (well, actually the whole motel is wrapped around it - so every paying customer would have copped the noise) prevented it. There was also the mandatory sound of hoons yelling and screaming and tearing off in their cars as they left for the night. And this went on until 12.30am. WHO WOULD BUILD A MOTEL AROUND A HOTEL ANYWAY??? Such a stupid location - and no doubt they have heaps of complaints about the noise resulting in lack of sleep. The bed was comfy though - but who can sleep through all that commotion? The fridge looked like it was out of the ark too. I strongly advise against staying at this motel on a Saturday night. The only good thing about its location is its proximity to shops.

“Brilliant BW Bakery Hill”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 4 May 2010

My wife and I chose this motel based on its location and previous TA reviews. We based ourselves here in order to be comfortable while attending the 95th Lake Goldsmith Steam Rally. It was a good choice as it turned out.
On arrival I mentioned to Helen (proprietor) that I was a light sleeper and I'd heard that some of the rooms can be affected by traffic noise. Upon hearing that from me, and because it was still early in the afternoon, without hesitation she took back the key to room 8 and handed me room 7's key, saying it was a lot quieter, although they had spent a small fortune double glazing windows on the affected rooms.
Room 7 is very spacious and very well equiped. Its also quiet, having no external walls facing the roadside. All the walls are tumbled brick helping to make it quiet. It has a small kitchenet, and the bathroom is divided into a shower/WC room and a wash room which also has hanging space for your clothes. The air-conditioner/heater was quiet and functioned properly and the whole place was super clean.
The motel is located in the very historic Bakery Hill part of Ballarat and a short stroll will take you past many wonderfull old buildings oozing character. Its also just over the road from MacDonalds and even closer to a really good Hogs Breath restaurant. Although we didnt eat there, there is a traditional pub adjoining the motel that advertises meals.
"Well done" BW Bakery Hill. We're impressed and we'll be back.

“Well worth the time to at least stay a night.”

My wife and I stayed at The Best Western Bakery Hill on the night of 14th July 2009 and upon booking I asked for a room facing the street. I was advised by Helen that they had a complaint about the street noise from a disgruntled traveller and had taken this on board and had double glazing applied to the rooms facing the street. I can only state that we were most impressed with the size of the room, even to the fact it had a lounge/couch, table & two chairs. (Most only have a small table & chairs.) I did take special note of the noise from the street to which it was minimal. (No worse than many other motels.) The eateries within easy walking distance are many. My wife availed herself of a cooked breakfast which was delivered on time by a cheery and polite host Gary. (Excellent. ) Over all I would like to thank our hosts Helen & Gary for the friendly and professional manner throughout our stay. We will definately stay again.

Kind regards, Ian & Wendy........ Horsham Vic.

“Nice location, nice room, terrible road noise”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 8 March 2009

We spent 2 nights recently in the hotel. However, the road noise was in tolerable, to the point that we did not have a proper nights sleep. Maybe the room could have done with some double glazing, to at least cut out some of the noise.

In Response to Desmond Melbourne,
Best Western Bakery Hill Motel is situated in the heart of the city, where you can park your car & walk to Resaurants & Shops, there can be a lot of road noise especially on long weekends when you stayed with us. Double glazing the windows was in our buget to do this year. I am pleased to tell you we have just had our 3 rooms at the front of the motel double glazed. hopefully you may give us another try or recommend us to your friends?Kind Regards Owner/ Manager-Best Western Bakery Hill Motel
